my point was not that would it being easy to get to work just not that hard to mount.

wow,so much mis-information here.and so much BS.
Yea you can find a 20b for 3k,but can you get it running for 3k? I dont think so.
You can make a LSx or 5.0 run and drive for 5k.

Flyboy-just do some research bro.and you make the decision,dont let people with negative comments influence you like such-

"also a renesis is more performance, my cousin has a 13b 1st gen that destroyed all the v8s in the competition so the renesis should be great"-----ok show us some proof?

"5.0 has been done to death. Also take a serious note at how many V8 Rx-7 projects are always for sale. Because they suck."----WRONG!

and so many other negative comments.Do as you want bro.Let me tell you this,I drive next to Corvettes and Cobras and they **** their pants.When your at the gas station,pumping gas and you crank a V8 RX7 and people almost break their necks to take a look.Im speaking from expirence.

I knew I was going to catch a bunch of flak for not being 100 percent rotary devoted, but hey such is life, you're bound to **** people off, you just have to decide whether it's going to be for a good reason...

Oh I will, and despite "V8s are everywhere" I've never seen a single first gen 8 in person, and only a few other generation swaps. I can't wait to scare the nuts off of some big name sports machines... I've calc'd the P/W ratio at about the same as a C6 Z06 for 350 horse at the crank, but I'm thinking more like 350 wheel...

Haha but do you have the whole driveway? I only have the edge, my parents don't like me even having it there (I'm younger than one might think). I do give you mad props for driveway wrenching, if you ask me the coolest cars are the ones done by people in their garage or driveway. Those 8s are quick, I've seen a video of one catching and owning an M5 on a track, but the cheap power is just too much to pass up.

I have plenty of pics up right now, and there are more on the way of all parts of the build, but DirectFreak has given me the warning that once pistons show up the thread is going to be moved here, which is really very saddening

hrm, i do have the whole driveway, but with other cars and people and stuff, the project stays in the one parking spot.

ive done both, and having the shop is nice, especially with weather and stuff, but either way you still have to work on the car, and the driveway is right there...

Might want to check out the Nov car of the month at www.norotors.com...

http://www.norotors.com/index.php/to...45649.html#new

Like others have said you kind of have to decide for yourself. You're clearly not a purist (a stance I can respect, if not agree with) so that means your choice likely comes down to ease of the swap and performance per dollar--both up front and cost to own / maintain--for whatever you want to do with the car.

When I did that math I landed on a heads and cam ls1. Sure it's been done but as to the argument it's not "unique" I'm one of 10 or so v8-7s I know of in a city of 17+ million people (Los Angeles) so how unique do you really need to be?

My car makes 462 rwhp and I use it as a daily driver on 295/30r18s. It brings a smile to my face every time I step down. Some folks say it doesn't have a soul. I can live with that. Can you?

Seriously, go with a Ls1 man. 310whp bone stock and about equally the same torque. Parts are cheap and available, theres TONS of reputable builders and ETC. Best decision i ever made, and i used to have a 3mmm cryoed 76mm single REW with all the bells and whistles. When my rx7 had the stock Ls1 was 10x better then the single turbo rotary setup inside and out. Go figure i made about 340whp with all that jazz and it still blew up after 4,440 miles on the fresh rebuild. Stock ls1's simply dont blow up unless you use sand for oil or something rediculous causing such a failure.

You ought to drive a car that's already been swapped, of course, finding a Renesis swapped car will probably be a lot harder than finding a v8... but this is coming from a hardcore rotary guy for the last 5 years. I love the car with the rotary... but I think I'll like it even more with a v8 All it took for me was one drive in a swapped car (and it was basically a bone stock ls1), and I was sold. Should have come from the factory like that.

LS1=ak47

Rotary=glock

They both get the job done but the ak is still gonna keep on shooting long after the glock blows up in your hands.....

I dont give a **** what "rx" stands for. they're shitty motors for people with low budget and high hp goals. I love em to death. I have fun with mine but LS1>rotary. All day.

If you're talking a pp 20b or pp 26b, that's a completely different monster and i'd take either over a piston engine because they're ******* boss and dont need engine-blowing turbos to kick ***. 26b is a pipe dream for most of us....

To blow up a 340rwhp 13b with 3mm seals in a bit over a oil change takes some REAL skill. Seriously you would have to TRY and TRY hard to pull that one off. I have no idea who touched that setup, but keep them away for a while. Or better yet for good.

Now to the OP.... skip the renesis. The renesis is nothing short of lame. Yes its a good lil' motor stock and can pull a few cool tricks, but the older 13b's put it in a headlock. I say build a 13b 4-port from either a T2 or 13b-re and make more power n/a and for much less effort. The 13b-re in my daily driver is at 230rwhp and I do not have any money in it at all. THEN if you decide to supercharge it, the engine will ACTUALLY live a really long time. Cant say the same for the thermal heat trap the Renesis is. And on the v8 regard....... LSx or nothing. The Ford engine takes some work to produce even stock LS power. And it is a cast iron behemoth at that. My two cents..

the other story i have, is my friend was taking me around infineon, and we came out of turn 11 right next to us was a factory 5 cobra. to our surprise the 8 pulled on the factory 5, all the way until after turn 1. the factory 5 is 2000lbs, and on slicks, so it should leave a showroom rx8 in the corners.

Interesting. The FF has *terrible* aero. Their lap times and overall performance suffer partially b/c of that. Wonder how much that played into that.

Back on topic. For a GSL, I'd go for a Renesis. That car is nice and light and simple. A nice rotary would be fun in a light chassis like that. I think the V8 would be overkill power wise and would require too much effort to drive all out and too much suspension and brake work.

Hey Flyboy,

If you'd like to catch a lift in an LS1 FC I should be autocrossing on December 11th at the Auto Club Speedway. Shoot me a PM if you want to come out.

And what a beast is! I urge everyone reading this to check this guy's build thread. I'm with you on the "unique" thing, I have yet to ever see a V8.7 in person and I've seen more than a few cars.

Agreed, I love rotaries and if I had big moneys I would do a ported 20B or bigger and jizz my pants every time I drove the car. But I don't.

It will take some insane effort to wring out and not die, but that should just make it fun. If I need more brake I'll do the FC swap, and my heavily upgraded suspension can handle it, should only be another 50 to maybe 100 pounds toward the front overall.
