New to RX-7 v8 Setup
I have recently checking into these conversions done on RX-7s and seeing the vast amount of swaps done from 2.3T Ford motors all the way to placing LS1 motors. However what has me going right now is the price. I have read that quite a few people managed to drop 302 Ford Motors with limited budgets and some people have spend nearly $10k to drop an LS1 into there RX. This entire time I was pricing out parts to drop an LS1. I mean crashed vehicle with running motor and T-56 trans on eBay going for $2k (auction ended and I didn't win). However I have checked and have not found someone to explain the procedures and price they used/spent to achieve LS1 setups. So if anyone other there has some time just drop any information that can help. Granny Speed Shop has chopped it and made it sound like a simple task and yet many abroad have complained. I am looking for someone that has done the swap and can answer some questions. Such as price, difficulties, challenges faced.

Well its not a weekend project. Difficult to give you much more of a answer than that as a ton depends on what generation of 7 you have? The 5.0 ford motor is definately the easiest and cheapest route to go. Ive seen many used 5.0 motors as cheap as 400.00 still running in the car and under 80k miles. The LS1 is a great engine but you wont get it cheap. Also with the LS1 in most RX-7's you will have to modify the oil pan and its made from aluminum. Most of your challenges depend on your series of car,so cant give you any more info,Shawn

Well I have already set eyes onto a 2nd generation RX-7. The vehicle is a N/A so most likely I am changing the rear end, replace brakes, and suspension. Along with that I will place strut bars and then hopefully find a motor going for a good price. I want to perform the LS1/T56 conversion, but I have read people spending large amounts of cash. I am getting the chassis with 13B for about $1200. When I complete my mods my budget will touch around $1800. I am getting the complete kit from a friend for $1000 (radiator and such). Then I would need to find a motor and transmission. What other expenses would I encounter? I have the basic tool kit, garage, engine hoist, air gun, and a welder. I would like to know where I would face problems.
