The LT-1 FB lives!

Well I got it running tonight...was short but sweet. It starts and runs a second or two and then stalls. Im working on finding out why. I still have a few wires that are not connected. I also have the PCV system to work on..cant find a decent vacuume diagram on this thing yet. The wires that are not connected are most likely for the A/C..cruise and accesories I am not using...according to the wiring schematic all my main engine systems are hooked up. My problem could be a vacuume line..Im not sure. If anyone has a vacuume diagram or any tips it would be appreciated,Shawn

I have a EFI pump in the car. I also topped off the tank with fresh gas but thier was a few gallon in there from last summer still. I'll get some pics but it isnt pretty yet. Lots of wires all over and greasy handprints. Total grassroots type swap here. Salvaged every part possible and didnt spend a dollar that wasnt necessary. The problem is either vacuume or electrical related. I admit even tho it only ran a few seconds that V8 sound put a huge smile on my face!

Sorry I didnt post enough info. I have a VATS elliminator installed from baker electronics and verified its working/installed correctly. I jst spent another 5 hours buried in wiring loom and wires and found a few wires that were not hooked up and could possibly cause my problem. The person who removed this engine cut the harness in a couple places forcing me to play "chase the wire game". I havnt tried starting it as its 2 am and only has open headers on it right now. I do think I found one of the problems though a 22 guage orange wire with a black tracer for the transmission neutral/park safety switch was not hooked up. Will see tomorrow...good thing its a long weekend have a feeling Im not done chasing wires yet.

Well still having issues here. Spent a lot of time tracing out wires and every wire is hooked up where it needs to be now. I did discover that by spraying in a healthy shot of starting fliud in the throttle body and putting the air intake back on it runs for several seconds then stalls. This makes me think my problem is fuel related. It will run on the starting fluid .makes me think its not getting fuel. I verified it has 40 psi fuel pressure and the fuel supply and return lines are hooked up correctly. This engine did sit for almost 2 years since it last ran Im wondering if the injectors could be stuck in the closed position??? I do know my fuel rail is passing fuel as I can hear it flow and also feel it flowing within the return line and again have the 40 psi pressure. Just curious if anyone else had a issue with stuck injectors? If so what did you do to free them up? Im going to remove them and check them tonight just due for a break from working on the car for a bit,Shawn

My car had stuck injectors when I first tried to start it. But it would only run with starting fluid or gas sprayed into the throttle body, without that it wouldn't even try to fire. To clean the injectors I pulled them out and powered them and sprayed compressed air through them. Did that several times and lightly hit them with a wrech at the same time. Fired right up first try after that.
I don't think your problem is with stuck injectors if it starts then shuts off. If your positive the vats box is working then I'd check the fuel pump wiring, if your not sure it's working right hardwire it for now.
Does it start then slowly choke out, or start run for a few seconds then act like someone turned the key off?

My problem was 2 different things. I had stuck and damaged injectors and my VATS bypass was hooked up wrong(my own fault). I removed my injectors and saw the top of them was badly rusted and the filters in the top were clogged with rust. I tried energizing them and doing the compressed air thing but they were locked up solid. I think this was from the engine sitting out of a car with the fuel rail open to air for 1.5 yrs or so. I bought a set of injectors from a roadmaster LT1 in a junk yard and that solved the fuel problem. Once I found my dumb *** wiring mistake with the VATS bypass it ran beautifully! I reloomed my wiring harness and now know every wire by heart. I think there guys/companies that sell these harnesses for 600.00+ are smoking something! I could get a harness from a junked caprice and make it plug n play by labeling and removing ABS,windshield washer, cruise, cooling fan ckts bla bla bla easily. Also helps that Im a electrician. So if you see reasonably priced LT1 harnesses on ebay in the near future theres a good chance its from me. Im now working on making a custom air intake that clears the hood...and getting ready to tackle the exhaust then its finished!
