They got 15 over Edelbrock shorties, and those are about 10 over stock. Even 20 over stock would be pretty good.

I cant imagine how weird of a driving experience that would be, from starting it up to driving it and shifting earlier than redline

c5s are so cheap right now and its an awesome car. I really dont understand the reason for going through all this trouble
Go drive a C5 and find out. I like the C5 a lot, but the driving feel is very different than the FD. The C5 is bigger and while they handle very well, the RX-7 is just a whole lot more tossable. An FD with an V8 makes a lot of sense to me.

I think if you had more seat time in the C5, you'd probably change your mind. When you've become acclimatized to a (much) smaller car, a bigger (normal sized) car is going to feel like it's "too big" or "not as tossable". I had no problem tossing my Z06 around, but it was my daily driver for over a year, so I was used to it.

By contrast, it sort of spoiled my RX-7 for me. It now seems like an unnecessary compromise in space and comfort for the sake of a little weight. Starting over again with an FD and a Z06 Corvette as my possible choices, there's no doubt which one I'd choose.

I was considering a z06 as well, but the weight difference is a major factor for me:

Z06 = ~3130lbs
RX-7 = ~2800lbs

As well as the fact that I think that the RX-7 is better looking and the vettes are just too common.

It's mine, Phil. No wonder it looks familiar. It's been in your garage. Tim sent me the link. I was a little surprised to see pictures of my car that I didn't even post, in less than 24 hours after dropping off the car, even.

Looks like the previous owner thrashed the car pretty good as it appears to have crapped a rod bearing, and I haven't really been that hard on the car since I've owned it. I'm looking at a $5K repair job, but I'll have a "zero time" engine when it's done.

Sorry to hear that.. Only thing that gave away was the ast.. When I saw that I thought it was your car. But wasn't sure.. By the way, I want to be clear about who told me what.. I just saw the car and I asked Mark57 about who's it was. He did NOT disclose to me that it was your car. He acturally told me he would not disclose that info. Very professional!!

Maybe you should have considered the torque difference instead...

As well as the fact that I think that the RX-7 is better looking and the vettes are just too common.
This "argument" always makes me laugh. So what? You know, I see more FDs in this area (Bellevue/Redmond) than I see Z06s. In fact, I see more 550 Maranellos than I see Z06s...

not to be nitpicky here but he mentioned ''vettes'' and you are specifying ''Z06's''

I'd agree the Z06 is ''rare'' and a desirable car, no doubt!
I'd also agree that a 'vette is common compared to an FD.

Oops, wasn't specific enough. I am picking up an LS1 Fd with ported heads, cam, ls6 intake, etc. I would definitely take a z06 over a rotary powered Fd.

As owen said, I did specify vette and not z06. I have tremendous respect for the z06 and would be picking one up if I could not find a well sorted ls1/ls6 fd. Here in Westlake, so cal, I do see more z06's than fds, and I also see more lambos and ferraris than fd's.

I'm glad you're not being picky Owen. Did you happen to notice if his post said "Vette = ~3130lbs" or did it say "Z06 = ~3130lbs"?

Maybe you should re-read your own post?

BTW, since we're not being picky, a Z06 is a Vette...

In regards to weight, I was saying Z06, in regards to commonality I was refering to C5's in general. And as you said, the Z06 IS a vette. In terms of visual appearance, they are of course very similar, IMO. Around here Z06's are common and C5's are VERY common. I still love Z06's, I would just rather have an FD with a LS* in it I like to have my 2800lb cake and eat it too! Of course, it will weigh even less than that when I am through with it.

Might be a little off topic, but IMO, Chevy is doing a great thing with the new Z06, making a car that will compete with if not outperform the likes of the F430, GT2, and of course the Viper for MUCH less. If you check out the forums for said cars you will see many owners who have posted about how they are planning on switching over to the new z06.

Yes. I guess the giveaway should have been the "worn to the cord" NT555 drag radials on the rear when I bought it.

Oh, I wasn't upset in the least of seeing the pics posted, I was just amazed at the speed with which they made their appearance. Apparently the car was a big draw at that shop over the weekend....

I rented a Toyota Corolla to drive home; how humiliating...

Sorry I won't be able to make Deals Gap. I was really looking forward to it, and so was Tim.

It's pretty startling to see how well they fit in there. I know that I was a little concerned when the motor/tranny was on the floor next to the car. The motor seems huge, but fits in there well.

It shouldn't be too much of a surprise anymore since the ls1 swapped cars have been around for two years or so.

It is one of those things that you have to see first hand to appreciate though. Pictures on the internet don't do them justice. I've had several people do a double take when I've had the hood popped, and the guy who did the state inspection for my car thought it was "the new vette" until he saw the registration.

My thoughts exactly when I saw first your motor sitting on the floor and then when I saw your completed conversion. It does fit pretty well.

FD rotorheads think of it this way, remember all the room in the front of the car when you remove the stock airbox, IC and battery? It looks a lot like that but the motor is just a little longer, small battery of course.

Just wanted to post my LS1 engine I just got for summer project on my FD. Going single turbo with a gt42. V8 in a rx7 makes perfect sense to me!!! james

Nice turbo setup, but I don't see that working in an RX7 swap, unless you do something crazy with the radiator. My radiator fan motor is very close to the crank pulley, so that turbo setup would go right through the radiator.
I'd be interested in seeing where Hinson has put theirs.

What about all the room in front of the bumper reinforcement? You know, where the guys place there fmic? There is a **** load of room there!! Add an air-water IC and you're all set

A-W is great for drag racing, where you can dump some ice in periodically. It's horrible for any extended/street use.

There's plenty of room in front of the motor John, you'll just end up needing to run some pusher style fans on the radiator.

The GT42 might not be the best turbo choice either. Choosing a turbo that doesn't have the general dimensions of a basketball would help.

A T76 should be perfect.

Another note: Just got a call from the engine shop guy, and contrary to Jason's claim when initially offering the car for sale that the engine was sourced from an '03 Vette, the engine numbers don't lie. The engine in my car is actually from an 01 Camaro or Firebird, no telling how high mileage. While I realize the engines are essentially the same, he lied nonetheless, leading me to believe he lied about everything else too (Heads, Cam, etc.).

My advice to the world: Don't ever buy anything from Jason. I'd post his last name, but his type would likely try to sue over it. Something for nothing, you know the type.

have someone run a crafax on the vin on the ecu, If it is the original ecu that was paired with the motor you can get a rough idea of how many miles it had, not thst it realy matters now.
