your swap worked out nice. Im going to be buying the hinson mounts soon. So you think they are better then grannys? Did you do the whole hinson package or did you buy seperate parts? any info would help.

 

yes I like hinson over grannys for the LS1-FC mounting kit.

the granny's kit is a huge under-engine subfrme/cradle which takes up a lot of space under the engine, making it even harder to do some repairs if you need to do any down the road.

plus the hinson tranny mount is notched so you can run the driver side exhaust up and over the mount/brace, essentially as high as possible / inside the trans tunnel, providing much better ground clearance compared to grannys setup.


I only bought the motor/trans mounts and the clutch master from Hinson.
everything else I sourced form other sources (less expensive!).

Toss everything from the stock engine/tranny. You should be able to get some money for it. The only thing you need from the pass side harness that comes out at the firewall is the plug that goes to the wiper motor.

 

do i need engine harness and ecu at all? Or do i just only use the modified ls1 ecu/harness only? sorry for all the questions, but im really eager to get my swap going. Just waiting to find a ls1 swap near me.

 

You'll just be using the ls1 harness and ecu.

 

what about other components? what should be upgraded on the fc to ensure fairly reliable driving on a stock ls1 using hinson's mounts? I don't wanna go out and drop so much cash for his parts when I can find them elsewhere cheaper

 

T2 rear end/axles are a must.

Upgrade the fuel pump to a 255 Walbro. You'll need to get a big aluminum radiator- they are quite cheap though- around $170. You'll also need to fab a mounting setup for the radiator (not too hard) and get a 16" fan for it. Also, upgrade the clutch master- the master Hinson sells is good but a pain to put in.
You'll want bigger rear tires- Owen has 255s but 275s/315s are ideal when you want to enter the path of adding on rear fender flares/widebody kits.

Other than that, make sure your suspension is good, brakes are up to par, and that is about it. These cars are 15+ years old, so make sure things like bushings and wheel bearings are good.

Owen may have a spreadsheet of everything he bought...I do a really bad job of keeping track of what I buy.

 

i got silk roads suspension, running 255 in the rear already, my rear end is a 91 gxl rear for now, and i just found my ls1 swap. Time to hit up hinsons. Owen do you have a parts list? Cant wait to finish this, Even more exciting then when my group did the first RB26DETT into a s13 in west coast. bone stock car with no lsd on stock everything except the swap we hit 12.3 at 118. I want to beat that.

 

Are your tires mounted the right way? Common sense tells me they are supposed to be the other way to propel the water to outside of the tire.

You can easily beat 12.3 but traction issues will keep you from that. A friend's S5 T2 with everything (AC/PS, sunroof, full interior weighed about 2950 pounds) and 245 width POS all weather tires did 12.2 or 12.3...starting from second gear and gently applying throttle.

You can easily uncork a ton of HP on the LS1 with header, cam, head, intake, and some re-tuning to accomodate the mods. And end up getting good gas mileage.

 

Nice swap, I think a small block will be my next hybrid project. Still far from finished with my Grand national swap. 12.2's are jokeable with that engine in that car high 10's shouldn't be a problem. I just broke 11's last week in mine and that was letting off in 3rd gear and coasting through the traps! Good luck nice looking car! Wanna trade?

thanks for the compliments, I love its sort of sleeper/beater look, especialyl with 350 lb/ft of torque under the stock hood, its insane for a daily driver too, so much better then the Hondas I was in to the past four years... especially performance per dollar, the LS1FC is wicked sensible.

yeah I got a cost spreadsheet, some things I didnt break down too much, others I got used for pretty awesome prices, ebay is your friend for wheels/tires/driveshaft/fuel pump/etc.

Bens LS1FC should really haul *** with the 315's he'll be able to fit out back using the widebody kit (tripoint replica)... I'd love to have done that setup too but I wanted too see how cheaply I could get the car finished in a usable and very potent setup kind of way... I did this for cheap and I still bought Teins, 17x8/17x9 lightweight wheels, aluminum driveshaft, sparco race set, etc.... SO MUCH cheaper then modifying a Honda, its ridiculous.

That is exactly what i needed to see. i was thinking of having hinson do that $400 harness mod for me and their speedo corection.

 

do not use hinson for the pcm, harness or speedo.
besides the motor mounts, hinson just resell other peoples stuff or work and ask even more money for it.

I used speartech for the harness and pcm/ecu work, but Rx-Ben might have a reprogrammed PCM you could buy and you could do the harness work yourself, its mostly removing unecessary things (emissions, secondary o2 sensor wiring, etc.)

the speedo correction has never worked for everyone 100%. I dont think its user friendly enough. I'm going to try to run my LS1 PCm right to the FC speedo but I havent tried it yet.
