The FD cost in the mid to high $30K range when new.... so getting one for $5-8K with a popped motor in good condition is about right. Plus they have an excellent chassis, race car suspension, beautiful lines, and the interior looks like a race car unlike the Camaro/Vette that IMO looks pretty **** poor.
I got mine for $3K with popped motor and "challenged" interior. After parting out the motor/trans and whatever else I didn't need.... I have about $1200 into it.
The conversion is worth the effort/headaches... great accelleration, killer handling, 300-400lbs lighter than a C5, 600-800lbs lighter than a Camaro, 26-28mpg, and of course much better looks with the 1 of a kind feeling.....
Just get the Camaro/Firechicken LS1/T56. Has everything you need, lower price tag than the C5 engine, and nothing to change over/parts hunt for... if you want more power slap on some AFR heads, big cam, and the LT headers being offered over on Torquecentral on the V8RX7 forum. 450rwhp+ with stock shortblock is a piece of cake.
