LS shift light wiring alternative to PCM?

Hi,

I want to install a shift light but the location of my harness into the PCM is very hard to reach for soldering a splice. Is there an alternative location to get a tach signal, like in the engine compartment to have better physical access for splicing a wire? (specific details would be great)

LS engine, PCM in pass footwell, full roll cage. Hard to reach and I risk damaging the harness wires by manipulating, stripping, and attempting to solder, around the rollcage.
