Carb'd V8... if you have an ignition controller that could be as many at 4-5 wires too hook up. Pretty tough.

well is better for you to find out more information on the swap, just pm those other vets on this forum that have done a V8 swap and i'm sure you can learn a lot from them.

take your time and don't rush into it. good things comes to those who have patience.

a carbed ford .. will most liley run into hood clearance issues .. but thats besides the point .. the actualy wiring of the car is minimal if you are going carbed as there is no computer thus much less wiring .. shouldnt be to hard at all

carbed small block Ford is pretty easy.

If you have an electric choke, you'll need a wire from a keyed power source for that. You need a wire to the water temp sender and oil pressure sender. And best bet is to get adapters/bushings that allow you to use the Mazda senders in the Ford engine.

The Ford starter uses a separate solenoid, so you can mount the solenoid anywhere. I put the solenoid in the rear well next to the battery so that the battery cable from the rear only carried power when the car was actually starting. You need to go from teh key to the solenoid, and you can use the same wire that went to the stock Mazda solenoid.

You need a wire from the distributor to the coil, and from a keyed power source to the coil. Again, th e coil can be mounted anywhere in the engine compartment. then you shoudl have a wire to the regulator on the distributor. On my Ford swap, I made a custom bracket and used a GM 1 wire alternator. That 1 wire went to the battery.

That's it for the engine.

The trans needs a wire for the neutral safety switch, if so equipped, and the backup lights, both of which should be provided for in the Mazda harness already.

Theres a few good things about the ford swap...even though I prefer chevy (thats beside thew point). The ford swap is cheaper and easier. Not difficult to find a ford 5.0 very reasonable and if it came from a crown vic it has the oil pan you need already. Definately something you want to read up on and plan on taking your time. Get to know your local junk yard well and search out the ones with the longest hours and best prices. Another tip if you do any sort of EFI search ebay for a factory manual on disk..can usually be had for under 10.00 and a must have! Dont rule out automatics as a option,I prefer a 5 speed too but with close to 300 hp and tons of torque comapred to a rotary even a auto will be pretty fast! Also auto trannys can be had cheap, most can take a lot of abuse and theres less clutch issues. If I break my 4l60e auto I know where therees 2 more waiting to take its place for 80.00 ea. Whichever road you take keep it domestic and common. If you need a part on a saturday most any parts store or junk yrad will be able to help you that way and for cheap. Just my opinion and BTW if your in central NY check out Vincesupullit.com near Utica they have great prices and are open 7 days a week,Shawn
