I might switch to the darkside

I just sold my twin t04e fd and Im considering the ls1 rx7 as a possible replacment. Im looking into having the block completely overhauled and a twin setup done. Its definetely a expensive project. I was up in that air between the 20b conversion and the ls1. Im looking to see who has what setup, whp range, 1/4 times etc. ANy help is appreciated.

Are you talking just the ls1 setup for whp or a converted ls1 FD? try torquecentral.com and the ls1 info can be found at ls1tech.com

Well you can find good ls1 set ups (cam/head combo, turbo, nitrous, dyno #'s) on the ls1tech board. As far as converted FD's most post on torquecentral.

ya know you could get enough power out of an LS1 with just cam/valvetrain/heads/intake/TB/tuning to make the car spin whatever tires you can fit out back. if you search around on www.ls1tech.com you can read up on what streetable setups make serious power... especially without the added clutter/weight of a turbo setup, the all motor LS1 blocks are beefy as hell for their small size and power output. not that I have anything against turbos but smooth power delivery is a good thing and an all motor LS1 can still push 550whp and insane tq without much work or cost, in comparison to boosting.

good luck on your LS1FD, they sure are a great package and Hinsons mounts make the swap pretty damn simple.

550whp is gonna decrease the streetability of the car with stock cubes. 450 is about as far as you want to head/cam the car. with a turbo its easy to make 550 streetable and if you do a lot of highway racing its real handy. There are a couple of guys pushing 500+ whp on torquecentral and are having good success with traction in thier converted fd, it just takes the right setup

Hinson has cranked out one or two conversions with turbo setups. His current car is clearly twin turbo. 93LS1RX7 is building a turbo setup right now. I would go to them with questions. Depending on how much power you want, you do have some options...

450 - Heads/Cam/bolt-ons
550 - Bore/Stroke + Heads/Cam/bolt ons

If you want more than that, a turbo would be the way to go, imo. If 550ish is where you want to me, it may prove simpler and more cost effective to do it all motor.
