Happy troublefree 2 years!!!
Just wanted to share a neat little statistic with you rotards.
It's been two years since my car has been converted to superior American pushrod LS1 power.
In that two years I've had exactly zero problems. Gas, oil and go. This is the longest my RX-7 has run trouble free since I bought it in 1996. Gravy on top of improved performance, better sound, more power, better throttle response, better MPGs, higher 'cool' factor, wider powerband and double the torque.
Truth be told 6 weeks is the reliability record for the POS 13B that came out of it.
Shmucks.

I have nothing against LS1 swaps. I actually thing it's really cool and may consider it someday.
But the 13b can be reliable too. I've had mine for a year and a half now and not had one bit of trouble out of it. I'm only pushing a little under 300 hp so maybe as you up the power it becomes less and less reliable. But I bet there are plenty of others out there that have run for years and years trouble free, you just don't hear many posts about when things are going good as you do about things breaking (thus my low post count).

Saturday, as I was driving down I295, she was running fine, and then cough cough chug chug groan groan. Had to pull over to the emergency lane. It died as I coasted to a stop. I fired it back up and it took about 3 attempts to get it running smoothly. Finally, she smoothed out again. 4 times in the next hour, same scenario.
Rotary go bzzz bzzzzz bbzb b bbz bz cough cough gasp.... silence.
Just more incentive to get my swap done. I am pretty good at keeping my cars well tuned, but considering that I have to open the hood on the Rx7 10 times or more for every time I open the hood on my V8 astro van, well I just do the math. I am not knocking people who have had great luck with their rotary's, I just honestly don't know enough about them to keep having to open the hood. But I love the car, and so it is getting the v8. Not because I think it is a better engine ( I think it is, but that is not why I am doing it). Purely because I "want" to. That is a concept that seems to not have definition to some people. I understand they "Want" to keep their rotary engines. I say cool for them. I want to put a v8. I know it better, I like it better, and that is all there is to it.
There is rumor around Jacksonville of a carbon fiber hand built Rx7 with a 3 rotor that is wickedly fast here, but I havn't seen it.
Iron Donut, Congrats on the trouble free ride. I hope that I am as fortunate. THat is why I am taking my time and collecting all the right pieces before I do the swap.
Later Rx7 fans.
