This method works with the manual rack for sure, and a power steering rack might work too, depending on how much you can hack out of the front of the oil pan. Welding on the patch was not too hard, but it wasn't easy getting it to be free of leaks. I'd say it took about 8 hours total.
The 351W should work fine if you don't use a trick flow intake. The stock intake should clear the hood though, and so should a carburetor. Doing the swap this way is significantly more involved than using the grannys kit, but makes a nicer placement in the end. It's all about how much work you're willing to take on (and finish - many a project gets abandoned toward the end).

^ for inspiration
Guys, the car is still going strong, still laying down rubber and getting me to work, 2 years later. It seems to like 89 octane in these hot Alabama summers (hot starts are an issue with 87).
Nothing out there like a V8 RX7. No regrets.

What's up!
Just checking in, and yeah I still got the beast but now I live in Cali so it's parked. I figure it might be easier to change out the built 5.0 for a stock LSx so I don't have to convince the smog testers it's legit, every year when tags are due. The main issue is clearance between the back of the heads and the firewall for the EGR tubes.
The car has been reliable and I've towed it across the country and back a few times behind my motorhome.
V8 RX7s rule. I plan on keeping the car until I'm too old to drive, lol!
