FB/302 swaps....

Yes, I'v esearched, couldn't find what I was looking for.

I'd like to swap this FB with a 302/T5. Aluminum heads/intake/carb will be the only mods, save for a pair of T3's and a blow through hat.

Has anyone mounted the 302 further back than just flipping the subframe in the front? How much further back could you get it and more importantly LOWER that saddling that damn double sump oil pan with the steering. I'm willing to cut the firewall and add sheetmetal, but I'd prefer to use the stock dash.

Goals are to keep everything under the hood, and get the weight down and back as much as possible.

the "usual" swap places the motor as low and as far back as you can get. the motor sits 1/4" away from the firewall.
Don't forget you've got to clear the steering link as well.

SPiN Racing has a 302 1Gen RX-7. The engine mounts were already installed when he obtained the chassis, but he may be able to give you some tips since he built most of the remainder of the car. Actually, I think he has it for sale in order to make room in his garage for more projects, so that could be another option for you.
