Convince me to sell my motor and swap ls1!!!!!

I have a 93 fd, Seq twins v mount, and some other junk. Well i guess im tierd of always worrying about my engine blowing and not wanting to beat on the car. I also have a family now and dont have the time and money to be constantly fiddlin with my car. I need something thats rock solid with less problems. Thats why i was considering the swap.

I just cant convince myself to start parting out my rotory set up.

I know i just cant get my self to pull the damn motor out i guess i am just going to have to go for it. I can sell dual oil coolers right cuz they wont work with the ls1 probly a dumb question.

dual oil coolers can be made to work with the ls1 if you want to keep them. check norotors they have the fitting part numbers you will need. I really do like the rotary but it just wasn't what I wanted for a daily which is what I use my FD for right now. I just like the fact that my car has been dded for 25k+ miles, if something breaks its in stock at any parts store, and I have ~330whp with bolt ons and torque everywhere

Some of the reasons I chose an LSX > rotary include:

1. similar hp output NA
2. usable power/TQ everywhere in the rpm band
3. better gas mileage
4. don't need turbo/corn/aux inj to make big power (less possible failure points)
5. six-speed tranny and the ability to build it to handle whatever you throw at it.

I still have nothing but love for the rotary motor and may eventually build another one. But I'm glad I chose to swap.

Do a compression test to see the condition of the core. If all checks out well then let the romping begin! You COULD get another block/rebuild it to handle more abuse then swap it whenever the original engine go's. These motors take more abuse then you would think ; )

6 speed= gay IMHO

Not sure if T2 trannys can bolt to FD blocks but they can handle a lot of abuse, so ive heard.

He never said his motor was blown so why would he need a compression test? I do agree the rotary can take a lot more abuse than people think but what exaclty is gay about a T56 6-speed? The fact that it's stronger than both a TII and FD tranny, that it can be built and has aftermarket support, or maybe the better gas mileage it helps to achieve?

Thanks for all the info guys, did most of you use the wiring guide on the granny speed shop or just piece it together yourself? Im no wiring wizard.

The motor is not blown but, i live in montana there is no wear to get tuned so i just have a pettit ecu, and along with a street port, it is just not very streetable and takes a while to warm up.

There are better/more accurate wireing instructions on the "other" forum. From what I've heard the granny's site is not correct and hasn't been for the past 5 years or so. I'm also a noob when It comes to wiring and I am not at that section of my build yet but there is a vender on the other forum that sells a complete rewire service with labels for the engine harness. His name is PEZ and he also has what you need to run A/C.

I just bought another V8 RX-7 this morning (albeit an FC 'vert). The swap can be done on the cheap if you want to. The PO of this car did the swap and used a 2005 Chevy L33 (aluminum block 5.3 liter motor) that was $800 from LKQ. Added to that was a used Z06 cam and better valve springs. He then lucked into a $500 T56. He used Hinson mounting and a 1998 F-body wiring harness.

It's not perfect, but he built it inexpensively and sold it to me cheap. And it runs great!

Here's my lsx vs. rotary comparison.
http://www.norotors.com/index.php/to....html#msg14088

My build thread is now a sticky at norotors.com if you want a general idea of what you're in for (ls1 fc but done nicely and pretty comprehensive).

I told him to do a compression test to see the condition of his engine right now. Higher numbers means it should last longer. Just so he knows the condition it is in right now. If he isnt shooting for a ton of HP then might as well stick with the stocker or TII. Fair point about possibly getting better MPG on the high way though.
