Super Snuggles
A small block (LT1, LS1) with headers barely fits between the shock towers and beneath the stock hood of an FD, so a big block is probably out of the question without some major surgery.
Even if space weren't an issue, you'd need an aluminum block, since a BBC weighs another 100-150 lbs. more than a SBC. A World Products Merlin aluminum block would shave about 130 lbs. off the weight of the engine, for example.
(weights are approximate and include accessories)
BBC, iron block, cast iron heads, cast iron intake - ~740 lbs.
BBC, iron block, aluminum heads, aluminum intake - ~685 lbs.
SBC, iron block, cast iron heads, cast iron intake - ~575 lbs.
BBC, aluminum block, aluminum heads, aluminum intake - ~555 lbs.
SBC, iron block, cast iron heads, aluminum intake - ~535 lbs.
LT1, iron block, aluminum heads, aluminum intake - ~520 lbs.
LS1, aluminum block, aluminum heads, composite intake - ~460 lbs.
The Buick/Olds/Pontiac big blocks are a bit lighter (~620 lbs. for the 455), as is the Cadillac 472-500 (~625 lbs.) but still considerably more than a small block and you've still got a packaging issue.
Ford Boss 429 - ~680 lbs.
Ford 460 - ~640 lbs.
Ford 351 Cleveland - ~550 lbs.
Ford 351 Windsor - ~510 lbs.
Ford Boss 302 - ~500 lbs.
Ford 289/302 - ~460 lbs. (late model 5.0s are a little lighter)
Mopar 426-440 - ~670 lbs.
Mopar 361,383,400 - ~620 lbs.
Mopar 360 "A" - ~550 lbs.
Mopar 273-340 "A" - ~520 lbs.
