5.0 swap help

well i have been working on completing this swap for freakin ever..and ever like 8 months or so. Anyway i have the motor in the car..hooked up running and so fourth..however i have two problems..the first of which is the throttle cable....i cant seem to get enough movement to be able to go full throttle as my pedal hits the floor and im only at about 3/4 throttle on the carb...the other..far more important problem..is that it overheats like no other. I have replaced the head gaskets..the water pump, the thermostat and even had a 4 row all aluminum radiator made for it..but still no dice. Im guessing my heads might be warped or cracked..my question is...how do i test to know if they are..visually i cant see any cracks and i dont seem to be losing coolant..untill it blows out of the resevior from overheating....normally i shut it off at the first sign of overheating but it has boiled over once ro twice while test driving...i live in the middle of no where and getting home was a problem..its sucked.. so ya any ideas? i dont mind pulling the heads and taking them somewhere to be checked cause pulling the heads on this motor is actually really easy to do IMO.

also my car has a bad stumble/ backfire/ hesitation under load but not at idle..and carb tuning tips would be helpful as well. any input is much appreciated

Don't know if I can help with the overheating but the throttle is simple. I removed the pedal, bent the top away from the firewall a little to get more motion. I'm sure there are many other ways but this worked for me. My swap was fuel injected but I had the same problem.

Check the thermostat again, its far from rare to get a new faulty one

thanks for the help guys...turns out the thermostat was bad and i had a brainstorm while working on it that my filler cap was too low to fill the entire system..i was getting huge air pockets in the top of the engines water jackets. I made a new hose system for it and added a much higher filler cap, also replaced thermostat with a 170 thermo...problem solved

I had no cooling problems with my 302 conversion until the hot weather came, specifically when sitting in traffic. As long as I was moving, it cooled just fine. After some trial and error, I ended up using the stock RX-7 fan, driven directly (no viscous coupling) and it moves a lot of air. If you plan to do a lot of driving/racing at high rpm, this may not be good idea, but I rarely exceed 5,000 rpm.

not a bad idea...especially considering i live it TX. I use dual spal 11" electric fans, they pull a crap ton of air..and after fixing the thermostat and getting the air out of the system i have problems getting up to operating temp...so when hot weather comes ill see what it does. Thanks for the tip..i might need it
