This really needs to go to the "Other Engine Conversions" tech section...

And strapping a deer on the hood (the V8 conversion) is a PROVEN bad thing for balance on these cars...for the 2nd and 3rdgen cars, it's nowhere near as bad, but it definitely impacts the 1stgens. If you're a regular autocrosser, you'll note that NO V8-RX-7 SA/FB is competitive...let's see some pics of recent trophies to prove me wrong...

Sorry, but I gotta say damn shame you did it...

I used to have a '71 Lemans with a 455. Power was just unbelievable. I bet that car will be simply insane to drive. Good luck with it man, and welcome to the forum...

He Haw! Maybe you and the General Lee should mosey on over to the Gold OldBoysRacing.com forum and compare all your redneck conversions. If you don't care about handling, balance, braking, and other elements of a SPORTS car, then this is the wrong forum for you. Might as well put that 440 in a Pinto or Cavalier or Corolla... your 7 is no longer a sports car but a drag car.

lol thats a bit extreme....

there are always gonna be ppl who dont like v8 in rotors, and there are ppl who dont like rotors in cars which used to have v8's too

well - everyone has their own car, do what you want with it i say! If you like corners, build it for the corners, if you like dragging, build it for the drags :-) V8 is probably cheaper than a 20B hehe - u can pickup 2nd hand v8's cheap, hard to come by a 20b relatively cheap

I hear ya H4... everyone has what they like, and you can customize your car to your preferences. But if you come around here and drop an old rusty V8 into a 7, then declare that anyone who likes sports car attributes wears lace panties, don't expect to get any love.

P.S. I can tolerate, for example, the pros and cons of a well thought out LS1 into a FC. But this is BS.

would be good if people didnt flame etc. cars dont really have feelings lol, owners do, so they can do what they want to the car to make it suit them

Straight lines get... old. They're so straight and straight stays straight. Unless of course you really suck. It's not fun after you know you can beat anything thrown at you in a straight line. Another thing being the fact that it doesn't really take that skilled of a driver to drive a car in a straight line. Point, shift, brake.
The fun comes from having a lot of power but being able to use it at the precise moments coming in and out of corners and cutting on the inside of "1ton sports cars" like your V8 Rex. For the more skilled drivers it's so much more fun to take you on the outside with the nose of the car staring down your door.

The fun is in the twisty roads. You'll never find two that are exactly alike. Unless of course there is some sick bastard of an engineer out there who is building two identical roads to prove me wrong. Give it time though and they'll differe by a degree or two.

Well I Ove My Cars, Dont Like To Be Attack, Well Opinoinr Are Like A.. H.. U Know The Rest, I Build A Bp 12a For The Car, But Waiting Till 12,000 To Get Power Was Not Fun, On Track Yeah, On The Street No, Dont Attack And Condem Me Until U Drive An Rx7 With A Bit More Power In It, It Is A Big Difference. I Start The Project Because A Lot Of People Told Me, It Would Not Fit, It Wont Run, And It Does, Be Defferent I Dont Like Cookie Cutter Cars, There Is A Lot Of Rx7s Bp, Sp, Turbo, I Seen Them All, I Have Owned Couple, Non Compare, And By The Way The Car Handles Just Fine, Its Nose Heavy But Not As Much As U Guys Imagine.

Are you still using stock brakes? That seems like way too much power to stop with only factory pads and rotors.

Damn noobs......look, why does ANYONE get an RX-7? The looks, maybe? The brakes, maybe? Most certainly the handling. There is nothing like popping out of a 3700 straight line missile and then getting into the '83 RX-7. The dramatic weight difference makes the car feel like a go-kart and the handling is way more than you need on the street....even with their ABS, I can still outbrake 95% of what is on the road into any corner and the cloverleafs that say 30 mph taken at 60 mph, with the tires barely registering a protest, gives a g-force feel that has to be experienced to be understood.

For straight line dominance, you can't beat a V8 on the street. Read the sig? There's a 455 HO sitting on an engine stand in my garage that is going to displace 463 cid when done and then popped into CBird when the 400 goes. But that 400 cid mill is still more than even stock 4th gen Firebirds can handle as I have to prove over and over and over every time I take the car out. I do understand straight line fun, but that is not the purpose of a 1stgen or 3rdgen RX-7. Get a clapped out Nova, Astre or Vega and pop that 440 V8 in there. Maybe hit with a 200 shot for more fun. Just leave the Mazda out of it. Your poor RX-7 simply doesn't deserve such heresy.

Simple as that.

i'm sure you've seen posts from good ol' '85 GSL 302 on this forum. he's quite the autocrosser and i think he has taken home some trophies

as said, my car goes in to the turns better than before... even on stock springs and shocks. there is a little more weight up front (actually only about 50 lbs compared to my old turbo 12a setup) but it's farther back behind the crossmember now giving me more control thru the apex. and even better i have more control with my foot and can come out of turn a hell of alot faster than before.

you guys seem to think that the weight is on the tip of the front bumper and that the fb will just push or oversteer, but that's simply not true. it only oversteers if i want it to oh and one of the fastest cars out on the high speed road course of Carolina Motorsport Park is an old 240z (similar to an FB) with a built 350 chevy in it.

again, i fuggin love rotaries to death. i have a TII that i'm building a redonkulus bridgeported T-66 setup for but i can't deny that my fb has never been better since the v8 swap. hahaha

And I've got a FIA Super License to drive my RX-7 at Imola.....like I said, let's see it. At the National level, there are no V8/RX-7s competitive. In the yearly GRM competitions, the same is true when it comes to the autocross portion of the contest when it comes to the 1stgen V8 cars.

Simple as that. Real world data, not hearsay....

I got my RX7 because it was 700 dollars and looked nice. I put a V8 in it because I could. That was the purpose of MY car. The purpose of yours may be different. Handily enough, that works out, because your different then me.

Simple as that.
