4.6L Motor Swap
Well I have a few question regarding my 91 Rx7 Vert.
I have been looking into all the different conversions kits they have for the Ford 5.0 and the Ls engines and I was wondering,
has anyone heard of someone doing a Ford Mustang GT 4.6L Swap. A 1999-2004 Motor.
Because I have a 4.6 in my Mustang right now that I am about to pull and wanted to know if it would fit or what not?
Has anyone had any success with it?
Is it even possible?
Is there any motor mounts or anything out there for this?
Please help with any info

Why though? I had an 02 mustang gt and the 4.6 isn't really that impressive with all its 240WHP. Be a bit better with the weight ratio over the stang but still.
Id say get the older 5.0 or wait for a new 5.0 to become more founded.

And I'm pretty sure my "...under powered runs like ****, idles like ****..." 4.6 3V SOHC V8 will blow your '87 RX7 off the road, off the drag strip and out of the autocross circuit. I'm also pretty sure it will out run and out stop your RX7 and you I know it'll beat the snot out of your blazer. And I believe it will do all this with the premium stereo blasting and ice cold a/c keeping me comfortable. And it'll get better fuel economy while it's at it.
And the 4.6 3V was on the best engines list for a number of years. And it weighs 420 lbs fully dressed. Yeah it's physically large, but it's still lightweight.
Now if you wanna claim your talking about the 2V 4.6 I have one of those too. It also runs like a clock and idles nice and smooth. The highest power 2V 4.6 SOHC in a Mustang was 260 hp.
The '88 Rotary n/a, which you say you own, makes 146 hp from 1306cc. Which creates a great hp/litre number, but still doesn't erase it's incredibly underpowered nature.
Power to weight? A real measure that can be qualified...
'87-88 RX n/a, 146 hp, 2800 lbs, 19.17:1
Mustang 2V, 260hp, 3400lbs, 13.07:1
Mustang 3V, 300hp, 3600lbs, 12.00:1
Which was it that was under powered?
If you don't like the guys choice in engine, offer some criticism that's constructive and not complete bullsh!t. Because I don't think you actually know about that which you speak.
I suppose you'll say the new 5.0 is too small too. Even though it's making as much if not more power thana the 6+ litre Chevy LSx engine?

I'm down with the 4.6 seems like a cool swap to me. I am a much bigger fan of modern engines rather than an ol' 302 Ford or a 350 SBC. Those are not original at all.
As far as fitment of the engine is concerned, you have the engine, you have the car and I assume you have a tape measure. Get to work!
As far as mounting options are concerned, I would look into swaps where ford guys have put the 4.6 into an older car, they may have adapters to go from the old ford style mount to the 4.6 style. The just get the grannies kit and use those adapters. The trans mount is pretty straight forward as well since it is a whole new mount that mounts to the unibody.
Or step it up even more and make your own mounts and figure out the efi its not really any different than any other engine swap if it fits.

Also a quick google search returned this, so apparently it can be done and there are resources out there.
