302 HO Wiring question in an '85
302 HO Wiring question in an '85
So i've found a 302 and a t5, most likely getting it. What would be needed to get it wired up to the fb and running? Just wondering right now.
Assuming the motor comes with its computer, wiring harness, and all sensors, all you need is to power up the main relay and ignition coil of the 302 using switched power from the ignition switch and main fuse block of the FB. It helps to have the wiring diagrams for the donor car and the RX7.

This is the reference you need. Your engine may be different, but this will help.

Bergholdt is an instructor at some college in California, teaches auto mechanics, and also writes a question/answer column that is syndicated in some newspapers. He is very helpful and would probably be happy to answer questions. Search the web and you should find him. This guy really knows his stuff.
For your info, I put a carbureted 302 in my 84. There is the main wire bundle through the firewall on the right side, which on mine had 17 wires. I am using 6 of them. I also have another 84 with a hopped up rotary, and I am using the same 6 wires on that one.
I had mine pretty well built before Grant (Grannys) started building Ford kits, but I did use his driveshaft flange, which saved some machine work. I recommend taking a close look at his kit.

I definately am using the Granny's kit, but i didn't get either of the things from the guy who offered them to me, he was asking a lot and it was just a longblock with no intake system on it. but the 5.0 will progress.
