where does my neg battery ground

i was pretty sure its usualy on the block, but i followed the wire to inside the car, it was dark though so i might have followed the wrong thing. the reason i am also asking is because my 7 is acting up around 3800 rpms and wanted to know how to fix it, do i just get a new cable and find a good ground or just ground it where it was grounded before. i tryed checking out the manual on a site but it didnt help.
just a quick response will do.
