My 1989 NA Dyno and Quarter Mile Info
I've already made a couple threads, so I've decided to merge them all into one and update it as I go along.
For my first dyno and 1/4 mile run on 10/14/07, I had my motor rebuilt and fuel injectors cleaned about 3-4000 km's ago. I also had a Fidanza 8lb flywheel and Exedy stock spec clutch installed. The engine was street ported, but the exhaust (minus the crappy catback the PO put on) was stock so, according to the forum, it shouldn't be doing anything for me. They didn't want to dyno it to 8k (Mustang shop afraid to blow it up) so they pulled it from 4000-7500, and as you can see it wasn't completely finished making power yet. Everyone guessed it would make between 120 and 140 rwhp. The numbers didn't scan well, but it put down 115 ft/lbs and 149 hp.
The first dyno didn't work, so they ran it twice:
I also had a 1/4 mile run on the dyno. I didn't get the best launch because the computer was outside my pass. window, so I got staged, glanced at the tach, and when I looked back the lights were already green (which explains the reaction time). If I was ready for it I would have gotten a better launch, but with a decent clutch slip and a little too much tire spin I pulled this:
Here's the video:
My first dyno/quarter mile run. Ran a 15.45, on a rebuilt motor w/ new clutch and Fidanza 8lb. flywheel. The motor was street ported but it still has the stock exhaust (besides crappy catback) so the port shouldn't be doing anything for me.[/QUOTE]
A couple weeks later, I took the car to Maple Grove Raceway to see if I could pull those numbers in real life. I only got one run so again, I couldn't redeem the launch. I revved to 4k and slipped the clutch way too fast. It bogged down to 1700 and bucked until 3k. After that it smoothed out and I hit my shifts pretty well. Judging by the mph on both runs, I would like to think I'm capable of running a 15.3-15.4. My car is in the right lane (obviously).
Again, I will update this thread as I get more upgrades and better times.

I shifted just before 8k. I'm going to Atco tomorrow, I'm going to bring it a little higher. What does your car have done to it? Right now, it's basically stock except for the flywheel because the port isn't supposed to do anything without an exhaust. I have a slight leak right before my cats so I think that might be giving me a little boost.

My mechanic who rebuilt it told me that once I get an exhaust I would make power to and should shift at 8500. I'm not sure on exactly how big the port is, but if I had to guess I would say medium (I keep forgetting to ask him). It's not insanely big, but enough to make a difference w/ an exhaust. I'm going up tomorrow with my girlfriend/family/friends so I will have one of them film my runs on my brother's camera and I'll see if he can upload them sometime soon. He's really busy with police academy/school/work.

I didn't get a chance to go because of the rain. I'm going to try to go sometime next week.
I still have all my emsisions and taking the exhaust off will probably be a huge pain in the *** (rusty bolts). Also, I don't want to risk having it leak in even more places. I'd rather just replace the whole thing, which probably won't happen until early next year. Right now, I have TII brakes sitting at my house along with a depowered steering rack. Once I save up for sway bars, bushings, and SS brake lines, I will start saving for the exhaust. I'm getting an SDJ header, Bonez cat and Corksport catback. Again, I will post updates as everything happens.

leaks in your exhaust are probably hindering your power not giving it to u it effects your motors ability to expel the exhaust gasses if its your daily driver i would get the exhaust first it would save u money on gas
u should also think about getting a fuel comp that would make a difference
my friends hate my car and keep telling me that it would run like a 16 and now i have proof i can do way better than that (mines bridgeported with header and cspower series with no cats) anyway good luck and have fun!

Unless your mechanic installed race bearings, higher oil pressure regulators, opened the jets on the e-shaft, and a bigger oil pump, I would shift around 8,000 to 8,200rpm. 8,500 is just way to high to be hitting regularly.

dw89s5: I thought that the leak would actually help because it is releasing exhaust that is not been restricted my the cats and mufflers. I don't want to put a whole lot of time and effort into it if it's going to be replaced anyway. I have to exhaust wrap that I'm going to put on there and hopefully that will seal it up a little. Also, If you're bridgeported you're look at times way faster than 16 sec. I'm running low-mid 15's on a street port with stock exhaust.
RXTuner.: I think he meant to shift around there when I drag it, not every time I open it up. I have to wait until I get the exhaust to see how it feels around 8k though. He said that it should make power there, but that's the limit and to never bring it past there.
I'm trying to get to the track, but it rained the past two Sunday's in a row. Hopefully next week I'll be able to run it.

leaks are bad search "exhaust scavenging" that should bring up some more info than im willing to type
i would listen to rxtuner according to my very sensitive butt dyno i dont make more power past 8200 its not worth blowing your motor for .2 sec 1/4 mile time

it wont blow, i bounced off the rev limiter on mind alot. nothing happened with my engine. i mean i seriously beat the hell out of my car for a long time and all i broke was the motor mounts and tranny mounts, a rear, and a trans. mazda built the engine to withstand up to 8500rpms, anything beyond that then you have to upgrade the engine

If I do bring it up to 8500, like I said, it won't be very often.
I have the dyno videos uploaded, but for some reason I can't get the 1/4 mile run to upload. As soon as I do, I will post them up.

Thank you. Mods are in the first post, but it's basically a rebuilt motor w/ Fidanza 8lb. flywheel. The motor was ported but I still have the stock exhaust so it shouldn't be doing anything.
