First decent run at the track - 15.9

I've been the the track two times before with my old engine and neither times were good. Both I had horrible tires and both I blew the launch. So 2 years later now that its running I finally got back and made a decent run.
First of all, its got a dead stock s5 engine with 100k miles that sat in a junkyard/driveway for a year and half. It has failing coolant and oil seals - Woohoo! I have an aluminum flywheel, bonez cone filter (no CAI) and RB header/presilencer with apex N1 catback. It also has an s4 LIM and s5 UIM. At this point I didn't have the RPM switches ordered yet so the aux and VDI were wired open.
The first run I did a 16.2 @ 87.9 and the second run was a 15.9 @88.2.
For the first, I had a 2.68 60 ft and 10.62 @69.4 at the 1/8th
For the second, I had a 2.53 60 ft and 10.37@69.9 at the 1/8th
Neither launches were very good. I bogged in both of them, as you can tell form the 60ft. I know that if I nail it I can get a better launch, and now that my aux and VDI are working it should be even better. I have no idea when I will get out there next, but hopefully I can get a better run out of it.

When you get the switches in and fixed so they open up correctly, you should try different rpm's to launch at. I was launching at 4k rpm's, below that the car fell on its face, above that it broke the tires loose. Just practice finding the swwet spot for your car and for you. With basically the same exact setup as you have, I ran a 15.01X @ 90.XX mph and a 2.223 60'.
Good Luck!

Where do you launch at?

When I was still naturally aspriated I found that lauching high actually helped alot at the track.

Good luck!

I think I launched at around 5k or so. I didn't have much time to experiment because the test and tune was almost over. I'm gonna go back smoetime soon and try again.

A little slower on the clutch should net you a better launch. If you don't have an LSD, I would strongly recommend getting one too.

Once you get that 60' down to about a 2.1 or so you should be cutting some decent times for an NA.

Well, I was actually reasonably easy on the clutch, but I just didn't get it right. I actually went out once with the aux ports and VDI stuck closed and got a pretty decent launch. It didn't bog or break loose the tires, so it was my best launch yet. I think I had about a 2.4 60'. Unfortunately it was an aweful time (16.9@80) because the aux and VDI were closed and I couldn't take it past 5k because of serious hesitation issues. Still, I know its possible.
I also don't have the worlds best tires, but they are pretty good. They are BFG G-Force KDW's but are almost 3 years old. They seem to be down on grip because my tail has come loose a couple times in turns under braking when it has never done that before.

my 85 fb 12A used to run 15.85, all stock with emissions off and 216000miles, that was top speed, i used to launch at around 5k i think, and i ran 17 to 19 psi in my rear tires (13" rims) when i ran braket racing i would dial in at 16.2 and i would run it consistent, mind you my clutchg was all down to rivets and my time started getting worst ans worst as the weeks passed by i went from frist to last, so i quit racing, now i have a 13BTII install, im hopping to run something close to the 14's bone stock, i hope il find out with in 1 month, u need to find a perfect balance with tires pressures do passes and drop psi in the rear tires 5 psi each, you will find that one sweet spot depending on what type of rubber you run, burn out time is hard to figure out, i used to place my mirrors down so i would see my tires and once the smoke goes around both id stop burning out, and launch at 5k. 13B n/a if all is working well should run at lease 15.70. its racing is an art, the more you practice the better you will get, i had lots of help when started off by ppl who raced for 20 or 30 years, Good luck on the next passes and hope i help in some way

Well, my oil control rings are pretty toasted so I don't think I'm gonna go to the track too much, but who knows. Anyway, I think I was running around 30-35 PSI in the tires, the same as what I run on the street.
