Talking Finally GOOD news! =D (Dyno)

Oh well,
Among so many posts regarding troubles with our beloved FCs, I'm finally happy to post some good news for a change!

Some of you may remember my old problem:

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/lean-condition-story-goes-322284/
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/dyno-results-running-leaaaaaaaan-321426/

Long story short: after months of struggling against my lean condition, the mec removed the wiring harness (the left side of it, the part that connects the ECU to AFM, boost sensor, injectors, etc.) and found that some cables didn't have continuity inside (they didn't appear to be broken from the outside).

At this point the car definetly improved a LOT, no more hesitation! Still it was going for high 16' AFRs, but this time the turbo ECU+AFM+Boost sensor actually made a difference. I also put in an A'pexi Super AFC (the 5 ***** one) and tuned it with a wideband.

Well, here come the results! =D

BTW, my mods are:
Complete T2 swap (engine, brakes, suspensions, tranny, diff, driveshaft, hood, ECU)
2.5"exhaust (all emission stuff removed)
K&N Air filter
MSD fuel pump
aftermarket FPR (don't know brand, fuel psi at idle: 45, at 6,000 is like 65 psi)
running around 7.5 psi

Mine's a 318 engine (J-Spec), but I'm using an S5 manifold and turbo exhaust. The ones I had were cracked and we were not able to find a 87-88 turbo. Oh well, at least I now have the S5 wastegate =P.

It is however curious that my S-AFC is tuned +30% at 5,600 and 7,000 rpm; I have been thinking about a slighty faulty AFM. I'm hesitant to change it as I'd have to re-tune the S-AFC; so far it seems to work fine with the piggyback correction.

Dyno run was done on our pisswater street gas, supposely rated for 87 oct, but I higly doubt it even reaches 83... and yes, that's the best gas available down here, short of race or airplane gas....)

Oh well, time to finally enjoy the car!
As soon as I can I'll go to the drag strip and see what happens; I'd be perfectly happy with a 14.5.
Best regards!

Happy member

Damn is that lag common for Turbo 2 FCs? #'s look solid, AF is jumpy but overall seems good.

I was about to tell you to take some fuel out of it at whatever rpm coincides with 65MPH on your car until i read that you can only get 87 octane down there.... considering that... it looks frekin good, 11.5 across the board (except for the 10.5 dip at 65 MPH) is pretty darn good for 87 octane at 8 psi.

Running 45 PSI on the FPR.. are you rich as hell under vac???

Ehhhhh, *supposely* we get 87 oct, but I don't belive it; it's probably around 82-83 without considering water and burnt oils that are often mixed in it (long story).

At idle, the wideband (LM-1) showed 14.5-15.0 AFRs, then around 12.5 till 4,000, and around 11.5 from then on.

Weird how the dyno wasn't able to get a steady signal from the new NGK spark wires, thus I only got the hp-AFR Vs Speed chart...

Err, nop, the run was done in 3rd gear... why?
4th gear @7,000 rpm is good for 125 mph....

Am I the only one who'd be dissapointed if I had a TII with an and intake and only made 180rwhp?

Maybe but you would also be a disappointed AND ignorant person because you weren't able to READ that only available fuel in the Dominican Republic is 87, and there 87 equates to what 83 or 82 would be here.

Ignorant? I'm sorry...I don't give a **** what the reasons are....if that's the best I could do, I would be disapointed.

Well by all means if you can take the car and get 250 out of it while it detonates like holy hell, go for it. The majority of us would rather not have our apex seals doing the jitterbug and exiting stage left.

The man did a safe tune and got good power out of it.

On the note of getting more out of the car Domyl did you look into octane boosters like toulene? Or maybe aviation fuel? Just a thought.

Thx man!
Yeah, I have access to both of them; I'll consider them in case I decide to raise the boost or upgrade the turbo.

No, I'm really not. The moment I want mind blowing acceleration and sub-11 secs 1/4 times, I'll just go back to sportbikes. In *my* case, reliability, experience and costs are a deciding factor againts med to heavy mods. I'm putting at the wheels the power I'm supposed to have at the flywheel with minimal mods and I'm more than happy with it.
