540 whp FC s/5 (no nos)

hey guys i'm the newbie to this forum, but old to the game.dynoed the car @
PROTECH performance 8-06-04 this was done w/ a s/5 block 9.7 rotors MAZDADRAGRACING.COM apex seals and a PT 74mm turbo.fuel system was done
by HASS @ PROTECH PERFORMANCE will have photos posted soon. EMS is a haltech e6k and tuned by me. the 540 whp was @ 25 psi and w/ a mild tune!!!
I think it will lay down 600+ w/ a little more "tweaking" goal is to run 9.50's w/
a factory 5 speed , factory rear end ,etc....(full street trim) yes i can drive this on the street w/ no problem. took the car to the track in ennis last week and had
alot of problems, but would like to thank HASS,GREG,RIC,and ARI for there support

ran the car here @ san antonio raceway and clicked off a 10.96@ 124mph shutting it down
@ 1/8 mile due to oil line problems

thanks guys the list is fairly easy the turbo is a PT74mm turbo the engine is built by TOSCANO racing(ME) it is a s/5 STOCK PORT block 9.7:1 rotors the best apex
seals i've used MAZDADRAGRACING.COM (3mm) cut by ROTARY PERFORMANCE
the block is pinned (4 xtra) BY PROTECH PERFORMANCE using 4 1600cc inj
HALTECH e6k MSD 7AL (leading) 2 6AL trailing the intercooler is under the dash
yes that is correct it is a air to water temp @ the line is 53deg F @ the end of the track it is 71 degF not bad since this was rec here in TEXAS in the summer heat 95deg f + this is also w/ a stock s/5 upper n lower (NO PORTING) the manifold is a CARTECH (old school) CORKY BELL magic is what i call it it is a cast
manifold.when i told him how much power it made he was proud to see the
FC block made 650hp (flywheel)w/ his manifold that was produced 10 years ago

the temps are w/ ice water!

No porting to the motor!? Jeez man, with a large streetport or half-bridge you could see even crazier HP numbers.

thats what i hear, the last "street port" i used gave me problems.this was also
when i was using a factory ecu.I think it was too much over lap,but soon i will
be swaping out the FC for an FD but will not do the swap until I run 9.60's @ 140mph this might be soon because the car is haulin *** w/ 540whp jus need
to get this damm oil leak under control so i can make a clean pass, and not run
all of this power into the wall!!!

belive it or not the STOCK axels are holding up quite well 1.49 60 fts this is w/
a +8 pinion angle i could do a whole thred on this subject

Same thing happened to me. I went up quite a ways on one of my t2s with the stock ecu. Ran like ***. Swapped in a e6k and its runs great.

p.s. I also have a friend with 460-500rwhp with stock ports. It can be done, just a lot harder.

so it goes without saying you like the PT turbo. Their prices match up good with a GT35/40 I was going to get. How is the lag on the PT?

no lag!!!! my last setup was a 64e pt turbo, and greg from PROTURBOKITS.COM
helped me select the 74mm turbo.when i launch the car it is jus free revin.i try
to keep the rpm's near the 6000rpm range so that when it KICK BACKS it will
fall in the power band.i get full boost @ 4500rpm (25psi) will be posting the dyno
sheet soon,HASS from PROTECH has it on disk.so that you can see how quick the
turbo responds to STOCK PORTS,also i will be tunning a 3rd gen next weekend that has a similar setup,I built it to my specs STOCK PORTS 3mm apex seals and
using a pt67s turbo that I selected.it is also water cooled so i'm hoping to lay down some good numbers w/ that.

stay tuned....................

Just how in the hell are you running a 9.7:1 compression ratio and 25PSI?

it goes w/ out saying that MOST if not ALL say that 9.7:1 is @#$%%@# crazy!!!!
and it would be if you try to run a 9.7:1 ratio w/ alot of timing.when i first started
out w/ the 9.7's i was cracking irons all day long,i could not make over 400whp
but this was w/ a factory ecu no piggy backs or anything like that.long story short
I chose the HALTECH E6K for more control,which = more power!!!so w/ that said
as long as you keep the air temps low (75degF) (AIR2WATER)(ICE) the rotary LOVES boostin 9.7's the main thing to remember is that the more power the engine makes w/ out a "hairdryer" the more power it will make w/ the "hairdryer"

last note......... COMPRESSION IS EVERYTHING you jus got too b able 2 KEEP it under control.

Good job, sounds like a hell of a ride...

Guess that stops ReTed and his "air to water I/C's suck" bit, eh?

Bravo on a job well done, hope you get the bugs out.

Yea, those rotors are probably why you have no lag on that setup, that is amazing. Totally right about compression tho, the higher the better, just have to be able to controll it. I can't believe that you didn't try to run even an safc at 400hp, thats crazy and a waste of money on those housings you fucked up. I thought you HAD to have an safc if you got larger injectors, as in the stock ECU cannot use them or some ****. It'd be nice if you explained that to me, as I don't understand

Finally, that manifold, are you saying that corky bell ******* built it! or are you saying that the maker built it using the corky bell guidlines in his book? That guy knows his ****, if any of you take a look at that book it gives very very good specifications on how to build a perfect manifold, exhaust or intake. It has all the information that you could want on a turbo system. Although there are a few things left out in the book, in fact he really doesn't get into ECU systems from what I read, I think just becuase the book is dated, but awesome information none the less.

I was thinking the same thing. But ted made it clear that its useless for street applications, I think he is right and wrong.
First off, his ICE deal there that he mentioned is not a conventional street method for cooling the intake charge, and doesn't counter anything ted said.
But there is a place for water-air intercooling in a street setup, using ice and **** is way better than air-air, but you can't have ice all the time, thus not being a street application.
Air-air will be better than just cooled water-air tho.
