most people think they are and alot of people don't drive em right my best runs at the track are at a 7km rpm launch just poping the clutch out, i got a 60ft o5 2.1 with bald 205s, my car aint all that from a roll it doesn't make much power till up high but then it really screams. Try a 7k drop, 7300 rpm shift into 2nd and 7k into 3rd, consistant low 15s is what i got doing that and that was before the SAFC, new plugs, better intake, posi and 225 tires on 18s.

just got back from the track... can't really complain first time i ever had the car or any car on a strip
i guess this isn't too bad for a first timer. the launch sucked, my over inflated 205/45/R16's would not get tration in first, always lost a bit of traction in second and on this run i missed then ground 3rd

I2 :6.846
I3 :10.090
MPH I3 :68.738
I4 :n/a
E.T. :15.779
MPH :86.946
over all i did what i wanted to do my first time on the track in this car, get into mid to hi 15's, unfortunatly it started raning when i started getting the hang of that damn tree and the launch
Frank
edit: i definetly need wider rear tires, 225 is the widest you can fit on a x7 rim right?? i heard a few times you can squeeze a 235?? i doubt it but anyone ever heard of it?

I'm estimating about a 15.3 as is and about 15.0 with a little weight reduction and my mufflers. My next mod is gonna be an ACT Xact Light Weight Flywheel so I'm guessing that'll put me in the 14's. I just gotta work on my launching
BTW: Wouldn't launching at 7000rpms eat your clutch up?

yes a 7k drop will make the clutch unhappy and don't expect too much from that flywheel, lightwieght means less inertia and less momentum allowing the launch to bog the engine more. You could looking racing beats flyweels that are lighter than stock and have wieght were they need it. also remember that my car only wieghs 2500, its a base model 86, i think its the lightest model ever released, I know that the gxl wieghs more as do s5s so a gxl s5 may have a good 100 pounds of wieght more than my car, also my compression is perfect with 100k miles

Well this flywheel is made of steel (12lbs or so)so its not exactly like what you are saying. I know what you mean though because I can relate to teh laws of physics when it comes to things like that. I'm also considering a CF driveshaft, 4.33 LSD, complete engine teardown and rebuild with aviation apex seals and a half bridge, bigger injectors, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, SARD adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Fluidine Radiator, CAI, gutted cat, ACT carbon/kevlar padded clutch (if they have one for my car) and underdrive pulleys so I"m assuming that with adequate traction this will put me in the low 14's (high 13's with slicks). I'm also coming up with an invention that is a modification to the intake (universal BTW so if I ever get it patented, prototyped, and start making them I will be happy to do buisiness with you . I can't tell you what it is cause I haven't patented it yet.).
