Cool 100 mph in 3 gear...wow...

What's up Guys. I'm enjoying my 1991 RX-7 Convertible. It only has 105,000 miles on it. Question how fast is this thing? I've been 100 mph in 3 gear.... I had now idea thses cars were this fast. Anyone tell me where is tops out at?

Welcome! Lots of different answers to your question. Give the search function a shot first as most "general" questions have been ask/answered many times over. I know verts are going to be the heaviest of all sevens but we all can be pretty fast. Take care of your ride.

fast is relative.. but I'm glad you're enjoying the car!

Doing 100 in 3rd is a gearing thing.. doesn't really translate into how quick the car is.. how long did it take to get there? Not sure if you have any mods, but it'll prolly go 120-130. Wouldn't recommend it on the street though..

hahaha...3rd gear for me redlines at ~105mph unless my speedo is off. 4th will be around 135, maybe 140 if you can stand keeping it close to redline for that long, in 5th it started slowing down, I had a passenger when I did this but I doubt it would make a difference. The weight should be similar to your vert w/o a passenger. Despite how slow these cars might be they're definitely fun in high RPMs

I can get ~80 in second gear at redline in my 87 GXL. Oh yeah, it's an automatic though.

Yup, slightly shorter gearing in the transmission. Also IIRC the S5 NA redlines at 8k, not 7k like the T2.

I just had the speakers replaced in the dash and doors..... But, (Best Buy), says there's a special tool for the Headrest Speakers. Has anyone heard of this? Can tell a place in DC,MD or VA that could replace them for me?

Weird my 88 gtu (had the stock lsd in the rear and what not. Not sure if the ratio is different) max speed was 80 in 3rd gear. *Shrugs*

I know this because I used to have a bad syncro is 4th gear and I would always have a trap speed of 80ish in the 1/4 mile.

I havnt notice what my max speed in 3rd gear is now that I have the whole turbo conversion.

my '88 TII will go

~68km/h in 1st (40mph)
~115km/h in 2nd (70mph?)
~170km/h in 3rd (106mph?)
~220km/h in 4th (135mph?)
~300km/h in 5th (186mph?)

but that's shifting at ~8k. I think 300 in 5th is about 7200.

Thats funny, unless you have major work done to your T2 its impossible to go 186 mph being the max speed for the T2 is @140. my N/A goes 135 max!!

uhh unless your vert is HEAVILY modded (read: turbo swap or nitrous) it is far slower than a v6 camry. I like verts but they are complete dogs stock in terms of straight line speed.
