I still think the fronts are too tight.
It might need a small spacer.

The rears should fit no problem.

They'll work, but it'll be close, but not as close as my street wheels. I'd have to say a +40mm 17 x 8.5 is as close as I'd want to get (mine). So i do a quick calc-measurement and I think they'll work... Like Ted says, there are spacers

Where do ya find 1-4mm spacers? I got my 5mm at the rack

anyone?

 

Our local (import) wheel stores carry them.
We got a set of 3mm ones.
Probably off-brand, made-in-Tawian crap, but how advanced does a spacer got to be?

Ok guys here is my problem . Im looking to purchase a new set of tires and rims for my 91 T2 I am racing this car at a local1\4 mile oval track and want to get the best grip out of this set up . I currently have Tokico 5 way Illumia shocks with Racing beat coil overs . The stock BBs rims fit fine but I need the widest rim and tire I can fit back there , please send or post any info you can Im trying to purchase tomm

I had
235/40/17
17 X 8 +35 RPF1, cusco zero 2 coil overs and I had to use a 3mm spacer on the front to make the offset +32 so it would clear.

255/40/17
17 X 9 +35 RPF1 rear was not a problem at all.

 

I think I figured it out...
I got to mess with a set of Tein RA's, and they had adjustable height by adjusting the shock body rather than changing the lower spring perch mount.
It could be possible to jack the shock body to allow the lower spring perch to clear the tire sidewall, allowing at least another 1/2" of clearance.
So, if the lower perch can clear the the sidewall, this is where the extra offset is coming from.
Not all coilover kits are designed like this, so it's dependent on the type and brand of coilovers.

1/2" = ~13mm
So all this to the +30 8" spec, and you get the +40 to +45 offsets!

very interesting... so if you can find a spring short enough to keep the perch higher then the tire sidewall... you give yourself a lot of clearance on the inside of the wheelwell, you could even run a wider tire in the front for sure.... I might look into this some more, I dunno where the perch sits on my Tein Flex right now plus moving it willl allow a 245 in front, I'd be stoked!

what is the offset of the wheel? this determines howe far out from the brakes the wheel will be. some of the rota wheels fit fwd much better than rwd so the offset is very important before you drop cash on them!

I have been reading the thread and am in the process of deciding on what i would like to buy for wheels. RETed,raising arizona can you guys take a look at the chart and let me know if these numbers are correct or at least close enough to use as a guide. The "dish" field on the far right is the amount of rim that will extend out further then the OE TII wheel. These numbers do not include tire sizes

 

I took a few pictures of my car while i measured for wheel fitment one image is from mounting Flange on the hub to the strut/spring and the other os from hub flange to fender. Using the 5" backspacing (for safe usage) the 7.5" width rim is about all you can fit with out rolling the fender. So a 17x7.5 with a +32 offset is the best fit with out modification and you could use wheel spacers to "flush" up the rim to the fender

 

Here are the pics of the rear fitment measurments. looks like you can safely use a 6" back spacing without rubing the trailing arm and about a 9.5" rim in the rear safely with out rubing or rolling the fender(depending on tire size)

 

That is correct.
Stock FD rims are the tightest fitting without spacers, and those are 16" x 8" +50.
If you run those numbers, it's exactly 6.0" of backspacing.

It's a bit confusing to read at first, but if you stare at it long enough it has some nice data.
The only it does not have is clearance to the outside fender edge.

thanks for the input Ted, i added the rim to fender clearance numbers. The numbers are the actual distance from the rim lip(estimated as close as possible) to the inside of the fender lip...for example the 8" wheel with +25.4 offset would stick outside the fender and you would have to either add camber(if you have adjustable camber), roll the fender or use wider fenders...where the 7.5" wheel with +31.8 offset would be inside the fender by a quarter of an inch....hope this makes sense

Nifty chart! I too had to stare at it, but it makes good sense...

As I've said before, the +40mm 8.5" has to be the tightest on the inside there is, of course depending on coils, camber and tyre manufacture plays a huge part... I think an 8" is the way to go simply because a 235 is probably max on the front so why go wider wheel... ya know? I'll tell you first had my front rim is tight, but it doesn't rub...

Im looking at picking up some 18X7.5 rims with a 42 offset and 225/40/18 tires to match,
will they fit ? will i need spacers or different sized rubber ?

any suggestions ?
