Question Would 225/50 18 fit in an FD front?

Getting some good condition 18" wheels for my FD. It already has some Dunlop Lemans tires on it, with a great amount of tread left, so I'm wondering if I can slap these wheels & tires on with no problem...

18x8 Front - 225/50 18
18x9 Rear - 245/45 18

Thoughts?

The tires are pretty tall. What width/offset are the wheels?

Yes they are...I'm running Koni Yellow's with Eibach springs. I'm thinking it still might be feasible but just wanted to make sure...

Offset:
Front: +40
Rear: +42

Sorry... Missed the widths the first time. I think you'd be fine.

Will depend on the overall diameter of the wheel + tire and the ride height

Should probably work for regular street driving but may rub the top on the inner fender. Keep an eye on that.

In a word: NO

The stock tires were 225/50/SIXTEEN... those will be two inches taller!

You want to be looking more in the range of 225/35, or 225/40, with a 245/35 or 245/40 rear TOPS. Go to tire rack and check the specs for various sizes, and remember the "50" or "35" is a PERCENTAGE of the width, so a 245/35 is taller than a 225/35. Generally, you want the same or slightly taller tire on the rear to maintain rake.

True. Overall diameter is larger with his setup. Unless the car is real low, that won't necessarily matter. I have 275/35/18 on mine (~1" larger diameter) without any substantial issues... and I'm sitting at 25.25" floor to fender arch. I think they'd fit, but you are right... the sizing is far from ideal.

AirEpic... The sizes suggested above are much more appropriate for the wheel sizes you've mentioned.

Thanks for all the input guys. Man it truly sucks cos the tires have like 90% tread left, is a summer tire and have a pretty aggressive tread pattern.

Silly question—but what if I switched the current rear tires (245/45/18) to the FRONT and got two new rear tires?

You run a higher chance of experiencing rubbing issues up front due to the height and increased width of the tire. Again, if the car isn't real low, you could probably get away with it... But I would still look at it as a temporary thing and replace asap. I have had 235/35/18 on18x8.5 +45 with zero issues. Id throw them on the car and see what you think.

Thats going to rub. You want a 225/35/18 or 225/40/18 up front. Its going to be cheaper to get the correct size tires than to repair the damage when you rub through the fender liners and body harness by running too tall of a tire.

Appreciate all the input. I went and got skinnier tires for the front (225/40/18) and it fits perfect.

NOW for flushness. Seems like both the front and rear wheels are a little too sunken in, and I want to buy spacers. Would 10mm spacers work out for front and rear with these sizes to make it flush? Or 15mm, 20mm?

18x8 Front - 225/40 18 +40
18x9 Rear - 245/45 18 +42
