Which Winter Tires are the Best??
I drive my car daily and I guess it is cheeper to get winter tires during the summer. Which winter tires would be good for snow traction? I live in New England area where there is quite a lot of snow. Any suggestions?? Thanks guys

I was jusy looking into the exact same thing. Thats kinda funny.
I have heard a ton of good things about the Blizzaks for snow/ice driving. But they suck for dry road conditions (and wear quickly). So if this winter will be like last, then the Blizzaks will be overkill in my opinion. But if it snows alot this winter, like they are forecasting, then they will get you where u need to go.
My other choise is the Michelin Pliot Alpin, they seem to be as good as the Blizzaks, but they also do well on dry surface.
hope this helps.

I have Blizzaks, I found them irritating most of the time because they suck in all conditions other than snow and ice. Most of the time roads are clear of snow so they're not really being used for their purpose. However, when the conditions are bad the tires perform almost the same as when things are good!

I've driven on the Alpins, and they are excellent. They also don't sacrific too much when the roads are dry either (though they are most definitely not dry tires), and their wear is acceptable. No experience with the Blizzaks yet.

Blizzaks .. I'm on my 2nd pair for a reason. I've ran other brands and nothing compares for winter conditions.
Yes they are brutal on the dry pavement but are priceless when everyone has slid off the road and you want to get where you are going in one piece.

Michelin Arctic Alpin is what I had. Excellent for ice traction, not a bad tire on dry roads. You can't go wrong with Michelin. Tire made a slight whistling sound when the roads were wet though...thats my only gripe. Otherwise, its the closest thing to having tire chains.

Note on Winter Tires
You really need to run winter tires IN SETS OF FOUR!
Probably any winter tire is better than all-season or summer tires.
It depends on what kind of winter driving you do, and how much money you want to spend. Tire size also makes a difference--winter tires options are limited in my 255/40-17 tire size...
