Which will have a bigger lip?

I was looking at some rims in a 18x8.5 and a 18x9 size for a FD; i was wondering what would have a bigger lip? 18x8.5 +43 or 18x9 +49? I'd like to run 4 of the same size on all corners.

Those 9's should have a slightly bigger lip even with the higher offset. I would go with the 9's either way though. I don't think +49 is to high. Anybody else?

18x9 +49 would be a great fitment for all four. Make sure that the wheels will clear the front brake calipers.

Depends on the wheel - I can get a 7" wheel with a huge lip.. Which design/manufacturer were you looking at?

right, but if you have the same wheel, for those sizes the 9 should have the bigger lip.

generally, but not necessarily true - depends on the offset and wheel design to determine lip - some 7" wheels I can get a lip on that you cant get on a 10" wheel -

Here's a suggestion... buy an FD first. It would help to have a car to mount the rims on.

High Horse? The guy is wondering why you are posting on this forum without even owning an RX7. That is a little wierd.

BTW...what the hell are you doing asking about rims for the car? The only ones worth getting are going to cost you alot of money and you havent even bought an FD yet. You sure as hell arent going to make enough working for Uncle Sam.

That's why i work at a 5star resturant making 150+ a night. But 150+ a night doesn't give you free insurance/medical, job training, housing, and pay for college. So uncle sam will definately be able to help me out. People have questions before they buy cars (and yes i have asked more than what size rims will fit, reliability mods, etc.). I figured since this is the rx7 forum people would have no problem answering those questions but instead a few people quick jump on your dick about not owning one yet.

yep, we're on the same page BicuspiD. i meant if you have the same make/model wheel that the 9 would have the bigger lip.

Generally this is true that Wider wheel=bigger lip - However look at this example

I can get an SSR Professor 17x8 with a 72mm Lip
I can also get a 17x9.5 with a 46 mm lip

It depends on the offset you need and the wheels construction, as well as the disk or face style, and brake clearance....

ok, i'm not being clear enough:
YOU'RE RIGHT!
I was saying that if you have 2 wheels that are the same make and model, only one is a 18x8.5 +43 and the other is a 18x9 +49, THAT 9 is going to have a bigger lip. The 8.5 sticks out 6.495cm from the brake hat and the 9 sticks out 6.53cm. Although, that is hardly any difference.

oops, forgot a step in the math, it's 6.495 for the 8.5 and 6.53 for the 9...
