Will 18x10 +38 fit an FD with a 285/35/18 tire?
Will 18x10 +38 fit an FD with a 285/35/18 tire?
I've found traction is becoming a major issue with my FD. I currently have 19x9.5" +45 Axis Supermesh with 275/30/19 Toyo Proxes tires.
The car makes 325wtq @ 2700rpm and street rubber is no match. I don't drive the car in the winter, so I don't mind running a drag radial full time. I can't find any in a 19" size (duh) so I'm going to have to get some new wheels.
Nitto makes a drag radial in a 285/35/18. This would fit perfectly on a 18x10" wheel, but can I fit it?
I can get my hands on some Enkei RPF1's in 18x10 +38. The car is on Eibach prokits and Koni Yellows currently. Can I fit this wheel and tire combo in the rear if I roll the fenders?

After looking at the car some more, an 18x10 +38 rim would definitely fit, but it'd have to use a tire that is at least a little bit stretched.
An 18x10 +38 will stick out of the fender approximately 1/2" more than my 19x9.5 +44s. It'd probably look great with a 255/35/18 as the tire would bow inward at the top, but that defeats the purpose of moving down to 18's.
Nitto says their 285/35/18 will fit on a 9.5" wheel. I suppose I could settle for an 18x9.5 +38.
The good/bad thing about RPF1's is that the lip depth doesn't change much (if at all) between offsets/widths between 9-10".

I'm not concerned with the rear tire height, really. The taller the better for drag racing... at least the bigger sidewall will help with traction.
I can recalibrate the speedometer without issue. Right now with 275/30/19's and the Prokit/koni combo I have a good 1.5-2" of fender gap.
According to my math the 275/30/19 is 25.5" tall and a 285/35/18 would be 25.85" tall. I wouldn't even notice the 0.35" really. That's 0.175" above and below the wheel center.

I'm torn between Enkei RPF1's in 17x8.5 and 18x9.5 or Rota P45F's in 17x8 and P45R's in 18x9.5.
I wish I were rich
It's either I get the proven race wheels that you see on EVERY OTHER FD out there, or I get the cheap Rotas that you don't see on every FD, but still wreek of cheap.
Oh well. I suppose it's better than spinning first through third.

One more question:
Will an 18x10 +52 fit? According to the wheel sticky, a x10 +44 is ideal. I could easily use a 5mm spacer.
I suppose my real question, is will a 305/35/18 fit inside a stock wheel well without hitting the suspension. I have Koni Yellows and Eibach Prokits. I realize that this tire size is 26.41" and an ideal 18" size for height would be a 24.85". Like I said earlier, it's very easy for me to calibrate my speedometer. I currently run a 275/30/19 which is 25.5". With my Koni Yellows set at the highest perch, I still have 1.75" from the top of the tire to the bottom most part of the unrolled fender (fender gap). If I use a ~1" taller tire, that will reduce that gap by 0.5" and I should still have 1.25" of gap between the tire and the fender.
Will a 305 tire fit between an unrolled fender lip and the inner suspension?

They are Axis Supermesh, 18x8 +40, I believe. The wheels are discontinued but they wll be for sale in a month or two.
I really like the 18/19 stagger. So much so that I'm probably going to go for a 17/18 stagger next. As good as I think the car looks now, I do too much drag racing and nobody makes a 19" drag radial. I like to "run what you brung" or else I'd just buy some slicks for the stock wheels.

Only one way to find out for sure
I'd say you'll need a serious roll at a minimum, along with coilovers and aftermarket trailing arms.
IIRC you also need something like 6.5 inches backspace on an 11 inch rim (so +50 offset)

I think I'm going to go with a 285/35/18 Nitto 555R. I know you're supposed to have a 10" to run a 285, but the 275's I have on my 9.5" rim now actually have a tiny bit of stretch (or top of the tire leans inward).
If I ran a 285/35/18 on a 18x9.5 +38, that should be okay, right? The "What Fits" wheel sticky says that a 9.5 +38 would fit and give me 1/4" clearance to the fender.
With that being said, though... If I roll the fenders flat, that means I should have ~6mm clearance on a 9.5 +38. So a 10 +38 would mean approximately 1/4" (or 6mm) more width on either side of a 9.5+38. Sounds like it'd clear the outside with a flat roll.
Are you guys saying that I would need aftermarket trailing arms for an 18x10 +38 and that a 9.5 +38 clears stock trailing arms by <=6mm?? Wow, I didn't know it was that tight.
