I would recommend you have the rims powdercoated for a stronger long lasting finish that won't peel easily. It cost about $100 each wheel, so about $400-500 for all 4 of them to strip the old paint, then powdercoat. Expensive but worth it. If you paint them, the finish won't hold up as well as the powdercoat will, but it will be a lot cheaper. I got those price estimates from a local powdercoating shop. Just google "powdercoat ontario"and im sure a list of shops will pop up.

I bought a car with SE37A's that were bronze originally now they are powder coated black. Not sure who did them, it would have been a shop in south FL. Shouldn't be hard to find someone that can do them.

thanks guys. i did plan on powder coating them but no one can match the bronze colour. i asked rays in japan and they cannot disclose the paint code due to copyright protection policy.

if anyone has been able to match the original volk bronze colour or at least come very close please let me know the paint code you used.

thanks

Isn't it risky to powdercoat wheels? Especially forged wheels because the powdercoating process involves baking the wheels and the heat can weaken the metal.

I've read that it will possibly weaken the wheels and it is not recommended (they say don't do it at all) by the wheel companies. Or so I've read.

Powdercoating CAN weaken the wheels, but if it's done by the right company, then it shouldn't affect the strength. I recently bought some Volk Rims, and had the centers powdercoated by rbwheels.com. The part they powdercoated is cast iron. They are 3 piece wheels, so the forged part is the outer sections which were not powdercoated. Iv'e read that to powdercoat wheels, you should have a material strong enough to handle the heat. Example magnesium and aluminum cannot/ should not be powdercoated for obvious reasons. Another option you can look into is having the rims anodized.

Volk wheels are anodized bronze, I don't think any powdercoater can match the colour and look of a hard coat finish....Binz, there's a place in Mississauga that has powdercoated a few sets of wheels for me, shoot me a PM and i'll give you the details.

Smile bronze volk wheels restored

jim,

i just saw your post. thanks for the offer but actually i was able to find and setup the restoration of my bronze wheels through an associate of mine. they now look even better than before i.e. just as good as new. needless to say, i am happy.

if anyone needs their volk wheels refinished, shoot me a pm and i will see if we can do the same. the cost for a set of 18" wheels is $750 on average depending on the condition of the wheels.
