wheels that will fit big brakes
hello, i just put a set of mitsubishi Evolution brembo big brakes on my 2nd gen rx7 and my damn wheels dont fit with them haha the circumference of the wheels is fine(17") i have over an inch of clearance there but the clearance problem is the side of the caliper hits the spokes/face of the wheel. the wheels im running are TSW kyalami 17X7 with 40 offset..the wheel face hits the caliper and the wheel still needs almost an inch until its sitting against the hub where it should be..so what exactly do i have to measure or look for when buying a new set of wheels to fit these giant calipers? i dont really understand the whole offset thing..i mean i know that 0 offset means the mounting surface is dead center on the wheel but what kind of offset will push the spokes out farther away from the caliper? and also every site i look at dosen't tell you if the offset of the listed wheel is negative or positive??? here is an example of a wheel that fits with use of a small spacer..but i hear spacers are bad news for racing, and this car has 500whp so i dont need to be sheering off studs at 100mph..i dont wanna die lol
heres that example..click link https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...2&postcount=70

Spacers are fine. I have never NOT run spacers on any of my racecars, and know of many other racers who use spacers as well. As long as you have good studs (like ARP) or use a spacer which also includes high quality studs, theres nothing to worry about.

ok so say my wheels are 40 offset right now, it dosent specify weather that is +40 or -40?? but either way if they are 40 now and they dont fit, am i looking for a lower offset number or a higher number? i guess if you said get the enkei's with 20 offset then that means i want a lower number correct? sorry if these are some real newb questions but i know nothing about wheel sizes or measurements in comparrison to hubs/calipers/rotors/ fenders..
also i looked at those enkei RPF1 wheels and i really like those..they look sweet and there pretty cheap too. does it matter what width rim i get? dose that effect the distance between the caliper and wheel face? and also im assuming i want 17 inch rims correct? and another thing, with the 20 offset rims will the fender hit on my tires? do i need to roll the insides? have you confirmed that those enkei's will fit over these huge calipers?

so i had a guy come and take some measurements today and i could space the wheel out but it needs a huge pacer that barely lets any of the stud show through and with those spacers on which i think were 5/8 im not sure though but with them on the tire will be to close to the fender and it will most likely rub going over bumps with the wheel turned. so im opting to buy a new set of wheels..what im going to try and do is find a wheel with the correct style face that will allow clearance for the calipers and at the same time keep the wheel from being offset out to far causing the tire to rub the fender, im going to assume that this will have to be a rim without any lip on the outside...so id like to hear more of some peoples opinions on what style/size rim to go with.

if you have 2 piece rotors you might want to do new rotor hats and new brackets so the whole assembly will move towards the engine, or when you say huge spacer, say it in numbers, might help understand what is the situation

they are not 2 piece rotors and its not possible to move the calipers/rotors to the engine side with this brake setup so thats not an option..and the wheel spacers i think were 5/8 but ill have to double check..i do know they were thick enough to cover the entire studs to the point where you cant get a lug on even one thread, so longer studs would be necessary. so however long the stock wheel studs are is how wide the spacers need to be..ill double check tomorrow to see if its actually 5/8.. can anyone with the following wheels measure the distance from the wheel mounting surface to the spokes/wheel face? that is the measurement i need to be looking at, not the offset because offset will just push the wheel out to far to fit under the fenders, so im going to have to look for a design with a long distance from mounting surface to face... here are the wheels im looking at getting measurements for.. all are ENKEI wheels

EDIT: i have stock fenders so running some crazy offset wheels or very wide spacers wont fit

if the clearance u need is 5/8'' is easily achieved with a spacer.. I have seen 1inch thick and im sure if u look hard enough u can see thicker ones
http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm-low/Atta...-Spacers-21773
5/8inch is 16mm
you can get a 20mm and mil it down if that 4mm will affect the fitment
The rhdjapan link is only an example, IM sure you can find cheaper ones here in the US
Just make sure it will fit your fenders so you wont need to roll your fenders

thats the problem...i know i could use even bigger spacers then 5/8 but even the 5/8 spacer wont allow the tho tire to fit under the fender..and i just spent 200 hours on body work and painting the car so scraping/tearing the fender up with a tire is not an option..and like i said i dont really like the rims anyway so im sure im going to buy new rims...

so i double checked and the spacers i need are 5/8 with the current wheels...my goal is to buy a new set of wheels that have a differnt spoke design and something with a lower offset like 20-30 that way i will minimize the width of spacers needed so i hopefully wont have to get longer studs pressed in..also im hoping with the differnt design of the spoke/face of the wheel that will allow the wheel face to be farther away from the caliper even if i got the same offset on the new wheels that i have on the current wheels, if that makes sense to everyone..ill post pics to try and help describe what im talking about when i say the face/design of the wheel will give more caliper clearance..the first pic is the wheels that are on the car now and the second pic is a wheel that has the design i need, notice the second rim has no lip which means the face of the wheel is as far out from the mounting surface as possible..

It depends a LOT on the offset and the disk type more than anything.
SSR makes 4 different disks for brake clearance, i know Work makes 4 now too.
Check with the wheel manufacturer if their face can clear the wheels.
