wheel width and sidewall

well i purchased 17x7 rims for the front of my fc and 17x9 rims for the rear. my question is about the width of tires i should run. if i run a 225 in front will the sidewall "buldge" because the rim is not wide enough? i am asking this because in the rear i want to run a 255 on the 9 inch rim and the sidewall will not be bulging it will be flat with the wheel. i know this is purely for looks but i am not sure what size tire to run up front. thanks for the help

Huh?@! 285 on a 9" wheel?

The MOST you can run on a 9" wheel is a 275, and it will bulge like crazy. Stick with a 255-265 at most.

For the 7" wheel, a 225 will bulge a bit, but you might have to live with it.... that's often the minimum recommended size for the tire.

When looking at tire size, say 255 40r17, take the 255 and divide by 25.4 to see how many inches wide the tread is. I don't know what the manufacturer recommends but the less sidewall you have the closer to the rim width you should stay.

well for the fronts would possibly running a 215/45/17 be acceptable? i think that would give a much better look on a 7 inch rim.
