wheel weight question

ok so i have the stock vert rims from the RX-7 vert there 15x6.5 and there weight is 11.5 lbs but with tires they way a little over 30 lbs i'm wondering if i had 17x7's that weighted 15 lbs would they way less with the tires then my stock vert rims

im guessing it would be more since is more tire covering a heavier wheel unless its a smaller profile and smaller width tire which will weigh less.

Tires from different manufacturers can vary significantly in weight even though they are the same size. I would stick with your vert rims. Many Autox and road racers use them.... It would be hard to make up the extra 4-5lbs in rim weight with a different tire unless it was a racing slick.

Most of the 17" tires are very heavy. You can do a search on google.com and look for tire weights. I think that Kumhos are actually one of the lighter street tires. I forget. Anyway. I run the 17X8.5 SSR rims which are pretty light for street rims and I have Dunlops on them which are pretty heavy. It is a street setup now and I am not terribly concerned with it.

When I used to race cars though, before I started racing bikes in WERA, I used the smallest rim possible with the lightest (and smallest) tire possible.
