Wheel & Tire Qs...

I'm planning a project and need wheel and tire advice.

The project car will be an 89-91 TII. I plan on getting the Mariah Front Fender flares, they say you can fit up to a 255 on the front with those fenders.

Basically what I would like to know right now is what sizes are reccomended? I'd like a 17 inch wheel, how wide can I go? What size tires would fit best on a particular size wheel? I'm not worried about brands right know, I'd just like to know the best sizing combination possible. Wheels and tires are not my area of expertise. Does anybody have links to some good FAQs?

Thanks.

I don't know any of the answers, but maybe Boosted 7 can help. He just put those fenders on his barney-mobile and is looking for wheels right now. PM him or something if he doesn't respond to this thread. Search under his name for a thread w/ pictures of his beautifully repainted TII w/ the flares as well! Race cars don't have to look that good... Don't mind my jealousy

Yeah, BOOSTD is the one to PM. I've been helping him find rims for his "special needs". I must remind you that getting the flares is the easy and cheap part in comparison to what you would spend on rims to fit this with a custom offset.

We've narrowed the best deal in a 17" to the Fikse, which is about $600.00 per wheel. So expect to spend a little more, lol. Anyways, your other options would be to get a Work wheel or a few of the Volk Racing's, but that comes from Japan and could take forever, 3 mos. However, I can get a few of the work multipiece wheels built to size, as well as any Kinesis or any of the other Forged wheels.

BOOSTD has the fitment guide, if you're looking to run a 255 I would suggest a 9" minimum, but sounds like you'd have better luck running those sizes in a 35 series w/ a 18" wheel. The 255/40 is a pretty tall tire, but if they give you offsets and proper fitment, then go for it. I would prefer to run the 245/40 on a 9" wheel, that would be sweet. And then you would need to run a 9.5 in the rear with a 255/40. You'd be set.

Rishie,

So, your reccomendation would be a 245/40 tires on a 17x9 rim in the front, and a 255/40 on a 17x9.5 in the back?

I checked out the Fikse wheels, I really like the look of the FM10.

This project is still a long ways away from ever getting done, I have to buy a TII first. :P

I remember seeing BOOSTD's pics in the FC forum a couple weeks ago. It looks great!! That's actually when I decided to get the Mariah wide fenders, I also like the Border nose. Hmm, sounds like I might be stealing BOOSTD's set-up. Good thing he lives in Missouri and I'm in Florida!!

Thanks for your help.
