Question Wheel/Suspension....grrrrind

87 Tll with Bilstein coilovers.
225/50-17 Goodyear GS-D3's on 17X7 American Racing (38 offset) and a 3mm spacer fit OK....tight but OK. Tried 225/55-16 RA-1's on the stock Tll wheels, but because of the wider section width, the RA-1's rubbed the springs (even with the 3mm spacers), so I had to put on 205/55.
While concentrating on the tire clearance, didn't notice that, even with the spacers, the wheel (this is the stock wheel) itself was just a hair from the bottom spring cup on the Bilsteins. OK going straight, but if you back up and turn....grind.

Getting 6 1/2 to 7 turns on the lug nuts with the 3mm spacer in place, but if I go to a 5mm, will probably only get 5 turn...is that enough for the track?

Options...longers studs and bigger spacers ( I really want to run 225 RA1's, so I will ultimately have to move the wheels out even more), or do I invest in new 16" wheels with ....what?...probably 32mm offset?

17" wheel clears the top of the spring cup, but I can't get RA1's in a 225 - 17.
