Wheel spacers: longer studs + spacers or studed spacers?
I am looking at a few wheels and the offsets are not exactly what I am looking for, I need an extra 10-15mm lower offset. So my question; are longer wheel studs and "slip-on" spacers better than studded wheel spacers? I am not fond of any type of wheel spacers, spacers are just making up for poor wheel fitment, but when the wheels are not offered in the offsets there is no other choice...
In either case, where can I get longer studs for the FD3S, or what studded wheel spacers would you recommend?

Thanks for the replay, see I am torn, I figure studded wheel spacers would be better, aside from the aluminum "hub" if you want to call it that, were as the stock studs are set in steel, but as you said longer studs will have more stress..... Studded spacers would be easier!
I called ARP they would need the knurl sizing/height etc, which I have no clue on this. I will have to try H&R.

I do not know if you would be bale to do studded spacers with that small of a height. remember that if the stock lugs are too tall, they will stick out above the surface of the spacer. This won't be a big deal if the wheel you are using has recesses where this extra bolt can go into.
As for not being sure about the stub pressed into the aluminum you do know the factory FC hubs are aluminum, right? Besides, these guys road race on spacers and stand behind their work.
If you really want to go with longer studs, then just buy ones made for the Corvette. they are the same thread pitch and size, and the knurl is the same.

No, they don't. The wheel is held in place by friction thanks to the clamping force, the studs will NEVER see any significant bending stresses unless something terribly wrong is happening.
Yes, but as was pointed out, you can't get them in thin sizes, there's not enough room. You're also counting on them to be accurately machined from quality material with good studs for them to be safe, strong and not to cause vibrations. I wouldn't trust some no name brand, that's for sure.
For ~1" longer studs all around, get the 2.5" ARP studs for Corvette/Camaro in the rear and the 3.25" ones in front. The rears require the hubs to be removed (press), so replace those bearings while your at it if you go this way.

What wheel are you looking at? That will determine if you're a candidate for studded spacers.
I believe Ichiba actually has studs for the FD now as well.

Thanks for the Response, so as for the longer studs, the FD uses the same as the Corvette/camaro; any chance you have a part number? I called them last week and they wanted to know knurl, but I had no clue. Why the different lengths for the F/R? What lug nuts can be used, I assume open end?
I do have an extra set of hubs so that would be a great candidate for longer studs.
The wheels that need the spacers are RPF1 18x10 +38. The FD studs are 25.4mm (1") so I would have 5-6mm sticking past 20mm studded spacers.

I can just get you the studded spacers and I know the rpf1 should have a deep enough cavity. In fact if the cavity is more than 10mm deep you can run a 15mm studded spacer.
Open ended lugnuts would be the safe bet.

Do you have some prices? On the spacers? How about the studs? I saw those studs on Summit, thats all they had listed for the Corvette/Camaro. I assume the longer studs in the front is because of a think hub flange, its been a while since I seen the flange.
20mm spacers are what I am looking for, it will give me a +18 in the rear, I initially thought about 15mm, see how they fit and perhaps add an additional slip on between 1-5mm if needed. However from y number crunching +18 should yield the same fitment F/R front being +22

i bought 20 mm hubcentric from a guy on ebay, he sells them with the longer studs.
I have these 20mm I can sell you if you want but I did not order mine with studs, just the spacers.
Problem is I cant use them on the front which is where I needed them, I need something closer to a 8mm slip on. I have some on there now that I tried but they are not hubcentric they are the Mr Gasket generic jobbies.

you know, rpf1's come in 18x9.5 +15 and 18x10.5 +15
sounds like that the fitment you're looking for...
the ARP studs are long enough for 20mm spacers, but i wouldnt go any higher.
if you know the width you want, and dont plan to change it, you're definately better off just using bolt on spacers with the stock lugs.
