Whats wrong? Someone is about to stick some hideous flares on a other wise beautiful car. But thats just my opinion and well, you asked whats wrong.

Is that a widened stock 99 wheel?!?!? Or does it have BIG spacers?

Personally, I don't see a purpose for wide bodies/fender flares/blisters unless someone plans to run some extreme meats (300 width or better). 275 tires with little offset and big fenders is strickly for looks. Theres guys running 295 rear with only fender rolling.

You can see the welding strip where the wheel was widened. Cool. How much did the wheel plus spacer weigh when you were done?

I t looks like quite a bit more than a 275. 315/35/17?

315/35/17 is correct ;o) They balanced out like a charm :-), but I have not documented the weights. I can tell you that the widened portions and spacers were done in aluminum so they are still very light aside from the beefy tires.
And just for the record the spacers are hub centric to both the hub and rim.

What, you don't like the blue tape? Don't worry friend, you will hardly notice them once they are molded in.

 

nice, what kinda spacer did you use and what size? and how much did that widening cost? cant wait to see when its done!

 

For all you're putting into your car Rob, you should get a good sheet metal guy to hammer you some replicas of those flares and weld 'em on.... so that way the first time the budy flexes or you bump something on track, all the putty from the mold job doesn't crack and ruin it.

Project update,

I've decided to head some good advice and some concerns of my own. In an effort to use my current wheel configuration while maintaining the OEM look, I am going to ditch the fiberglass flares and have some custom metal work done. My body guys will cut around the stock fender and extend the entire OEM fender out about 2.5 inches by welding new sheetmetal into the gaps and cutting/forming the body into position. They will cut the stock wheel liners and replace them with custom formed aluminum wells that we are contracting through their sheetmetal fabr.

The front will get simular treatment with custom aluminum fender liners and plugged bay/rail cavities.

I am fortunate to be working with a body shop that does a lot of custom work for an NHRA drag team. It also helps that they are interested in the project and are able to understand what end product I am looking for.
