What is the widest tire that fits nicely on 17X7.5 wheel?

Well, I wanna put widest tire possible on my rear wheels as soon as I wear out 225s that are on the wheels right now. I want wider tires but I don't want to sacrifice handling, as tires that are too wide for the wheels are said to effect handling, and also look bulky compared to the wheel. So how wide should I go in the rear with 7.5" wide wheels? I'm assuming 235 or 245? Thanks in advance

245 ithink, it depends on the aspect ratio of the sidewalls too.

To maintain stock wheel+tire diameter, you would need to run a 245/40 17 tire. This is not recommended for a 17x7.5 wheel. Stick with the 225/45 17 size.

I can live with a bit of diameter increase.

A 245/45 17 is an INCH taller than stock. That will raise your final drive ratio, making your car slower and your speedo inaccurate.

rynberg is right

Stock 225/45 16
Side Wall: 4.4 in
Radius: 12.4 in
Diameter: 24.9 in
Circumf: 78.1 in
Revs/Mi: 811.0

Proposed 245/45 17
Side Wall: 4.3in
Radius: 12.8 in
Diameter: 25.7 in
Circumf: 80.7 in
Revs/Mi: 785.0

This says your spedo reading will be 3.33% off reading 62 mph when traveling 60mph.

This is according to the Tire Size Calulator in the sticky second from the top of this forum.

Will it have a huge effect in acceleration and speedo reading then? 3.33% doesn't sound like much...

You still have your stock wheels rigth? If you do then just put whatever u want for your new rims.

Use your stock rims for real racing with a set of R compounds in 225/50/16.

I doubt u are using 100% of your car's capability on the street anyways, so who cares if you are going to lose some torque due to the final gear ratio.

So is the torque that I lose will be noticeable? I'm gonna be running at around low 300rwhp range after retuning.
