what makes a coilover?

What is the diffrence in a "drifting" coilover vs a "normal" or race one, is it that ones built stonger, spring rates or what... I'm looking for something around 20% over stock give or take...

thanks

Non drift purposes usually have front biased springrates.

Drifters usually go for stiffer springs in the rear to induce oversteer. Im no drift springrate expert but I think a lot of RX-7 guys use a non-biased equal springrates or where both ends are close to each other in stiffness.

But the main difference is springrates.

Note that the spring rates are not the same as the wheel rate (which is what matters). The motion ratios front and rear are different (about 1.6 and 1.4, respectively). To get the same wheel rate, you need stiffer springs in front.

That said, it does seem like the drift coil overs might be stiffer overall and stiffer particularly in the rear to make the car more loose. But I'm not really sure.
