What to look for when buying 2nd hand coilovers?

What should you look for if the 2nd hand set arnt actually installed in a car?

The brand. Remove the spring from the setup. Check the damper's compression and rebound. Then change the damping setting and see if that changes the rate of compression or rebound.

After that check for rust and broken seals or anything of that sort.
