well I work at Discount Tire so I deal with tires all day...just keep this in mind when buying tires the speed rating and the tread design I see alot of drifters at my store if you are new to drifting then best way to decide is by process of elimination...check out something simple like some Khumo 712s
If you've just started drifting... on a track or other venue away from the public... you should start with cheap tires. You are going to be burning thru them more quickly than your skill/experience is increasing, and it will take a while before your choice in tire will greatly impact your ability to drift. What might help is to get a spare set of rims with cheap tires, and swap them onto the back whenever you go to this closed course to drift (keeping the more expensive, stickier fronts on the car). That way you'll save the better tires for the street (where they'll hopefully keep you on the road better), and the car will want to oversteer more when you are practicing drifting, giving you more opposite-lock time
for just practicing until you get good buy used tires with a descent amount of tread left cuz ur gonna brun through em...also get a second pair of wheels to put the drift tires on and swap them so you dont brun up nice DD tires.

i starteddrifting over a year ago...and started with **** tires and sticky on the front,it worked great then moved up to 17's...i have potenza's and they heat up too fast for my N/A car...when my swap is done next week might be better but too sticky for the stock set up.

Yeah, I could see hoe 712's would be good for drifting. I had those on my rears when I bought the car. They had decent grip, but not a ton by any means. They seemed quite pradictable and controlable. I did some unofficial drifting on abandoned parking lots in them and they seemed to do well. Plus theyre cheap.
just go to some shitty tire shops. usually run by black people that speak french. tell them you want shitty tires that are still good. or goto the junkyard and just start yankin ****. serriously. keitchi tsuchia (sp?) even suggested getting junkyard tires for drifting in the drift bible dvd, which is a damn good dvd to have btw.
Whats the cheapest tire you can find? how many of them do they have? buy them all.
Buy the best tires you can afford for the front, the stickiest. Buy the cheapest tires you can find for the back. keep at least 2 extra rims with tires on them in back. go drift, when you pop a tire, swap it. Dont stop till they pop. people might freak out saying your shootin sparks.. ignore them. just pop the tires...people like that.
unless your Rich, have a really good tire sponser, or are just stupid, dont buy expsensive rear tires for drifting. Cause when you get semi decent at drifting, your gunna burn through 4 rear tires in just a couple hours. No need to waste money.

id go with falken 512 ziex tires. they last long, and not to mention they're all season tires. and insanely cheap. i got some for around 60 each with free shipping. 17 inch tires btw too. for the front that is. if anything cheap or used tires for the rears.

I've got something a little different to say...
first of all, how much power do you have? is the car N/A or turbo?
the best idea IMHO, is to balance the tires front and rear. if you don't have much power, run a mediocre tire on all 4 corners (like a 205 series all season). if you have a decent amount of power... well, basically just run the stickiest tire you can spin/afford. running a really sticky tire in front, and a really bad tire in back, IMHO, is not good, and just makes it a lot easier to spin, and gets real frustrating, esp. in snappy cars like FC's (if thats what you're driving...). just balance out your tires as much as possible to give you a good feel for the car.
