they look like very cheap wheels. judging from the place you are getting them (discount tire), their price, the sizes it is available in, and the brand Voxx (never heard of them before)...i say they are cheap knockoff ricer wheels.

b/c i don't want to spend loads of money on wheels and coilovers or tear up my fenders like all the other posts i've read. and yes, 235/45-zr17. btw i'm also looking at the superleggera from oz...only if that's ok with you. but to answer your question, yea i was looking at the way they looked.

OZ will be a MUCH better choice, IMO. if you dont want to worry about rubbing, you could run 18x8 in the front and 18x9 in the back, shod with 225/40-18 or 235/40-18 in the front, and 245/35-18 or 255/35-18 in the back.
17x8.5 with 245/40-17 in front and 17x9.5" with 265/40-17 in back works well and doesn't rub unless you slam the car. See what wheels and tires Rishie (ARD T2) can get for you. You'll end up with a great deal on quality components, while looking great.
Alternately, SSR Integrals are on sale right now at Tire Rack, from what I understand. Those are great wheels that you can get without breaking the bank. OZ Superlaggera (sp?) also sound nice if they are available with the right widths and offsets.

I would run at least an 8.5 x 17 or 9 x 17 to make the wheel upgrade worth the extra cash...you can go with 245/40-17 on the 8.5 x 17 or 255/40-17 on 9 x 17...make sure you choose a 45-mm offset for the 9-inch widths...40 to 42-mm will be ok for the 8.5-inch wide rims...
FWIW, I agree with JoeD, that 8 x 17, 235/45-17 is NOT that much of an improvement in traction over the 8 x 16, 225/50-16...you're just buying a bit more handling "feel" by going with a taller rim and tire...
In my case, 17-inch wheels were a NECESSITY, as my '99 FD Type RS brakes (fr/rr) will NOT accept 16-inch wheels. And since I HAD to buy new 17-inch wheels, I went 1-inch wider all the way around by going with 9 x 17s, with 255/40-17s. Wheels are SSR Integral A2s in 45-mm offset, and tires are Yokama AVS Intermediates.
I have no rubbing problems with H&R Sport Springs, R1 Showa shocks, and Eibach Swaybars...
The wider road tires have a considerably higher stick potential, and coupled with the much larger '99 FD RS brakes, my Rx7 R1's running gear just feels so much better than the old stock setup!

i don't want to spend the money on 18"wheels and then repeatedly on tires. i'm not made of money. i just wanted a good looking wheel that will not break me when i have to replce the tires. granted i drive my 1st gen everyday, but i'm trying to get wheels, cf hood, and my motor w/upgrades all this summer after i sell my bike. i was looking at these, but i wanted to stay "safe" with an 8" width b/c of encountering problems with the springs and so on....http://discounttire.com/product/wheels/enkrpm.large.jpg
these are 17x9 with 40 offset....i don't know if this is correct, as i just entered car info and they give you the appropriate options...or are they

nothing wrong with 17's....8 inch is on for the front..8.5 would be better but not necesssary...but really think longterm...after you spend some money on your motor mods....like you stated...you gonna wish you had some meat in the rear.. 9-9.5 in the back are fine...40mm offsets should work back there...
I agree..18's are pricey! But I would do it again...

18-inch wheels/tires outperforming 17-inch wheels/tires is arguable at best...Many like the look of 18s, but there are many who say 18s slow them down on the track, or during street races..., and opt for 17s on road courses and 16s for (serious) drag races...
Basically it's your money, so you can do what you want to do...

How about the Enkei RPM-2. This wheel is lightweight and not that expensive. It's offered in the staggered fitment 17,8 and 17,9. this wheel is at a good price as well. If you'd like your forum/racernet price please PM me and it will be less than buying from discount. That applies for anything discount sells.
Thanks, rishie
IMO, I would not get those wheels. If you want a set of good looking lightweight wheels then get the Enkei RP01 in the 18,8.5 front and rear. I can do this set for $825.00 shipped and if you want tires we can work out a spanking deal on some P7000SS or Kumhos to keep your costs down.

The Enkei RPM-2 are nice wheels... pretty pricey if you are looking to not spend so much money... One good thing is they are really light.
rishie,
i've heard you mention the RP01s a lot of times now... whats up? personally i think they kinda look like stock wheels... well almost...
they are a good prcie though

Who said stock appearance is bad? Uh oh??? I think I just opened up a can of worms. hehe. I love the simple 5 spoke look.
I like function over form and will sacrifice form when I can.

You gotta weigh the pros and cons. that's about it.
