What do I choose? Rishie/SleepR1

Okay my probelm was that the rims I got where rubbing really bad in the front since I had a offset of 37 on a 18x9 with a 235/40/18 on the volk GT-N's. So Volk wants to give me a 18x8 with a offset of 37 since he said the 18x8 only come with a offset of 37 or 49, but he also said that they have a 18x9 with a 44 offset but he said that wiil not clear my brake calipers.
So What do I do? I need to know by tommorrow
thanks

I responded to your original thread in the 3rd Gen Forum.

8 x 18, 37-mm offset will work with 225/40-18 or tires with no rubbing. The 235/40-18 tire size is too tall, it will rub the LF fender liner, and pull your LF fender lip down when you turn hard left.

9 x 18, 44 offset will also work, with 255/35-18 tires.

I'm not sure about the caliper clearance issue your wheel shop is referring to. You have stock sized brake calipers going inside EIGHTEEN INCH WHEELS Perhaps the clearance has more to do with the wheel centers possibly rubbing the brake caliper face, rather than the top of the caliper rubbing the wheel rim

So SleepR1 what do you recommend, I want to have that low profile look, and it seems 40's are to tall of a tire, I was thinking whats best to have a 35 up front and a 30 on the rear? or will going with 225/40/18 not make the tire look as big? Yeah the people at volk was talking about the center section being to close to the brake caliper on the 18x9 with a 44 offset, if I go with a 225/35/18 up front then to get a 30 on the rear I would have to go with 285/30/18 is that a bad setup?
Or if the rim is too close with the 18x9 with 44 offset I guess I could always go with 3mm spacers on it to bring it to a 41 offset.

Also what about 18x9 with a offset of 37 with 255/35/18 size tire on there would it still rub? and that would be a lot lower on there since I would be going from 40 to 35 or even a 245/35/18

It's not about the "look", it's about what will work properly.

225/40-18 has an overall diameter of 25 inches, which is nearly the same as stock. This will minimize any rubbing that might occur from a too tall tire, like a 235/40-18.

I don't see how a 44-mm offset could present a problem with calipers rubbing the wheel centers. I have 45-mm offset on my 9 x 17 SSR Integral A2s with larger '99 Type RS front brake calipers, and have plenty of clearance from the SSR Integral A2 wheel spokes.

The 285/30-18 with 10 x 18 is a good fit. Because you have such a huge difference between fr/rr wheel/tire widths, your car will understeer quite heavily at the limit (with much wider tires in back). This is why I always suggest running same size wheel/tire sizes all the way around...9 x 17 with 255/40-17s, or 9 x 18 with 255/35-18s...using 44 or 45-mm offsets....10 x 18 with 285/30-18s, 51-mm offset, 2.5-inch outer diameter coil springs.

A 41-mm offset with spacers might push the tire too far outward with a 255/35-18 tire. You'll need to decrease the width to 245/35-18, or 235/35-18--if you go with a 41-mm offset.

A 37-mm offset with 9 x 18 will not work without rolling your fender lips...

I'm quite disappointed how inept your Volk wheel dealer is with regard to fitting wheels to your FD Rx7. It's really unacceptable.

You should have gone with our Rx7 Forum's Rishie, ARD T2. He would have set you up properly from the BEGINNING!

Why do you want your tires to look like rubber bands stretch over the wheel rims Anyhow don't worry about it...with 18-inch wheels, your tires will look that way anyway...

Now that you're a wheel expert, pay your knowledge forward, and help someone else out!

What Manny said. Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond. I noticed Manny was taking care of it.
