It's not uncommon to have to wait for wheels which fit our cars.

17x9.5 +38 are available. Too wide for the front? 17x8.5 +35 are available. Too close to stock? Could probably fit a 255 on the 8.5, but doesn't allow for much wider if needed down the road...

You were concerned with a 17x9 +40 fitting, so you'll have more concerns with a 17x9.5 +38. You need to decide what you want, and how long you are willing to wait to get what you want. IMO, I would make sure whatever you order is "exactly" what you want, not what "will do".
