17x9.5 +38 are available. Too wide for the front? 17x8.5 +35 are available. Too close to stock? Could probably fit a 255 on the 8.5, but doesn't allow for much wider if needed down the road...

You need to decide what you want, and how long you are willing to wait to get what you want. IMO, I would make sure whatever you order is "exactly" what you want, not what "will do".

You were concerned with a 17x9 +40 fitting, so you'll have more concerns with a 17x9.5 +38. You need to decide what you want, and how long you are willing to wait to get what you want. IMO, I would make sure whatever you order is "exactly" what you want, not what "will do".
