Unbalanced Volk wheels?

I just got my wheels back from getting mounted with Bridgestones.

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...9&page=3&pp=15

I had the tires installed at a BMW performance shop here in Dallas. The are the Dinan installers etc... and race two Ferrari Modeno's. Anyways, the guys at the shop say that the wheels are VERY VERY unbalanced. That they do not feel comfortable mounting that much weight on a wheel...especially one that will be seeing track time.

I think they were saying that one wheel wanted 5-6 onces to balance? Anyone here of similar issues with Volk wheels? Should I just bring them to a neighborhood Discount Tire and see what they get on the balance machine???

I didn't have any issue with mine, but mine were CE28N 1 piece forged (as opposed to the SF winning multipiece). I sold my original set, but after a lot of review, it appears that they are Volks new light weight champion. I had mine mounted at a local discount tire. Maybe they aren't as dedicated as the place you took your rims too? Are they talking about unbalanced as in one wheel weighing more than the other? Please elaborate if you can.

Pic was when I first moved into the house. It's much cleaner now

hahaha! Nice exhaust

Yea the guy said that all four were unbalanced only one was not so bad but still needed alot. So he said that he didn't feel comfortable with mounting that much counter weights on the wheel.

Kind of hard to believe with Volk's quality control.....yikes. If it was just one wheel, I would have them remount the tire to see if that balanced things out better but ALL FOUR?

If you want to go to a top flight place try the Discount Tire in Flower Mound. It is managed by Todd Eady who supports the local racers and has touchless tire mounting equipment as well as a tire heat cycling machine.

Call Todd and talk to him about your problem; see what he thinks.

Damon,

thanks for the contact info. Drove all the way up to Flower Mound (jeez thats far!!). Todd who I guess is the manager, came out of the office and did the balancing of the tires himself. After about 30mins he was like I don't like the way the hub centering rings are sitting and might be givin false measurements. He proceeds to take off the rings, rebalances them all. Fortunately all are within spec. SWEET!

Also, he noticed my m3 need rear tires and stated he could beat any price. Sure enough, lower than Tirerack with mounting. Really nice guy and GREAT service!

oh and Autoscope, the BMW gurus had an older wheel balancing machine. The people who sold me my wheels suggested I find someone with a Hunter machine. Todd had the Hunter GSP7900...new found respect for Discount tire.

Great to hear, Bob. In my experience Todd is a great guy and so is everyone who has worked for him. He knows how high maintenance **** retentive car guys can be and he's still willing to help
