Trailing Arm Install Question

This is a silly question but while installing my pillow ball bushings I also decided I would install my trailing arms I've had sitting in the garage for a year.

My question is which way should the longer part of the bushing be facing when you install the trailing arm? Away from the car or torwards the center? I couldn't tell from the stock one because it looks more symetrical and my trailing arms are not labled driver or passenger side. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also... is it best to try to adjust the trailing arms so that they match the factory arms in length? I'm going to get an alignment done once I have everything bolted back up but I was just curious. Thanks
