Track Worthy?
hey guys, yesterday i took my 87 S5 T2 out to the track. i need info on new rotors and pads and where to buy them. also what would be some good but inexpensive tires to wrap around the original 87 T2 rims? all info is greatly appriciated.
If you are just starting to track the car, maybe "dual-use" brake pads will work for you -- for now. In the end though, you're going to have to start using real track pads at the track.
I would just get solid-face or slotted, vented rotors to replace your stock rotors. Do not get cross-drilled. Decent "dual-use" pads I've used are Hawk HP+ (nasty dust and light-braking squeal). Others have used EBC Reds, Axxis Ultimate, Porterfield R4S to varying degrees of success.
You can get some of these products from the Tire Rack, others from several of the other bigger online stores.
