tires for 18x8, 18x9

I am looking to figure out what tires to go with. I just picked up a set of wheels and the tires need to be replaces. I would like to know what tires i should go with.(aggressive street some times 1/4 mile track).

currently the rims have:
18x8 -235/40/18 KUHMO ecsta
18x9 -275/35/18 KUHMO ecsta

any suggestions.

You're going to be hard pressed to find performance 18 inch diameter tires for 600 bucks a set.

Even the new Kumho XS, which are very cheaply priced compared to anything comparably sticky, go for $764 a set plus s/h on the tire rack site.

For those widths personally I'd recommend 225/40 and 255/35.

Given your price range, your only real options (at least on tire rack) are the Sumitomo HTRZIII and Hankook v12 evo k110 for performance tires.

You can check out other brands not available on tire rack such as Toyo, Falken, and Nitto but again the price range will really limit you. If you were rocking 17s you'd have many more options, 18 inch tires are $$$.

You can see here the HTRZIII did very well, and Mr. Howard Coleman likes them as well:

I don't know yet.....I am thinking it will be 330-350 when i finish.

so you think i should go down to 225/40 and 255/35? The 275s looks so awesome though....

275s will fit on a 9 inch rim, but ideally you'd want a 10 inch wide rim for 275s. If you don't mind the sidewall bulge and potential squirmy handling on cornering then you can certainly get the same sizes. I know the Mustang crowd runs 275s on 9s all the time, but they're more concerned with straight line acceleration generally speaking. My opinion, that's all

Price no object, the Yokohama Advan AD08s are killer..... at $928 a set.

If you can save up a bit, the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs offer a lot of bang for the buck, $768 for a set.

^^The above is for the 225/255 sizes, you can check out the tire rack to see other sizes and prices.

If it were me I'd save up the extra cash and get the Dunlops

I just threw the rear rim on to see how it would look and i come to find out the stock lug nuts are too thick. in other words the stock lug nuts fit the wheels but i cannot fit a socket around the nut to get it tight. anyone know what lug nuts i need to buy?

You need any kind of "tuner" lug nuts M12 x 1.5... those muteki are fine inexpensive ones.

Always cross City Tire when looking for rubber: http://citytireonline.com/brands.htm You have to call for their pricing on a lot of them, but they're super chill no BS.

So what sizes and brand did you get? Please don't say Fuzion ZRi's

I personally use the Gorilla splined lug nuts, each nut is a lock so you have added security. You can get them from Summit Racing for around 30-40 bones for a set of twenty in a variety of finishes. Chrome, black chrome, anodized black, etc.

since i still have at least 50% thread on the kumho MX tires i decided to wait until l i can afford a good set of tires. Its not worth loosing a $15,000 dollar investment just to save a few hundred.

as far as the nuts thanks for the advice...Gorilla splined lug nuts.
i am debating weather i should get all chrome nuts or go ricey and get an ionized color.

Jason did you buy these wheels off tirerack??

If so, they supply you with the correct lug nuts that WILL FIT.

I bought the same exact wheels from tirerack in 2005, same exact sizes and i got lugnuts.

But right now im rocking the rays engineering light weight lug nuts which feel like holding a penny for each lug nut LOL. Its soo light that you wonder how they hold up when you drive. Sometimes my OCD kicks in and i have to check the lugs every so often to make sure they are still tight lol

I got the wheels from a forum member (ihavetwins) so they didn't come with nuts.I was told that these wheels are cheap but for $500 with the tires i couldn't pass it up. Once i received the wheels and looked them over they seem to look very well made and they are lighter than the stock 16" but we will see once i take`em on the highway.

(1QWIK7) do you have any pictures of your asa on your FD?

lol those wheels are long and gone man. I kept those wheels for about 8 months then sold it. 18's seemed to big for my car at the time and i still believe that now unless i drop the car more with skirts, then ill go to an 18" setup.

Right now i have 17" RPF1's.

It could also be your sockets. Go to autozone and get a 19MM duralast socket. Thats what i use. The quality isnt the best but thats good cause it has a thin wall to make it work lol
