tire width question...

how do you know how big of a tire (width) to get?

fronts 18x8.5

rears 18x9.5

like in tire sizes they say xxx/xx/xx

so i think im gonna get ???/40/18 but i dont know the width number i should get or how they correspond with eachother. like if its 225/40/18 how do you know how wide 225 is? will it fit 8.5? 9.5?

It can also depend on the offset of the wheels. Lets say with the 18s you have with +25 offset, you can have 225/40/18 on front and on back 275/40/18. Or if you have +45 you can put 215/40/18 on front and 245/45/18 on back.

8.5 id guess safely a 215-255, a 9.5 roughly 235-285ish, maybe a bit bigger. of course this all depends on how much clearance you have. whats the offset of your wheels?

Did you all know you can get the manufacturer specs for the tires you want to buy and it says exactly what size wheel each tire is designed for?

Look on tire rack.

Or you could put a 215 wide tire on a 9" wheel just to be cool.
